Just had another echo. Mean gradient is mid 20s mmhg. Cardio expects up to another couple of years out of the Trifecta, until the mean gradient is in the 40s. I asked about TAVR potential leaflet obstruction of the coronary arteries but cardio says buttons were implanted higher by the surgeon so...

Hi Fred, I am sorry to read about your valve failing. I also have a Trifecta and I am nine years out. My last echo showed increased gradients so I am scheduled for another echo soon to determine the rate of deterioration of the valve. I'm 75 so I suppose they will recommend TAVR if I need it...

All of the Trifecta valves were recalled due to the rate of early failure. Mine is mine years since implant with some change in gradients. I have to follow-up with another echo soon. I have a 29 mm implant so if I get tavr hopefully the outcome will be satisfactory.

Thanks for the info. Do you think that your poor outcome with Viv-tavr could be related to the relatively small size of your Trifecta?

Sorry to read of your unsatisfactory outcome. I am wondering about your specific situation, e.g., your age at initial AVR, prosthesis size, etc.

The study notes that comparative studies done elsewhere based on an older average age cohort did not show a similar result. VIVTAVR still seems to be the therapy of choice for older people with failing aortic prosthetic valves

Congratulations....I'm at nine on mine but the gradients might be increasing. I'm due for a six month follow up echo in Sept to track the trajectory.

Do you have a bicuspid aortic valve? If so then the likelihood that you will eventually develop an aneurysm problem is in all probability higher. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

That's interesting. So having an ascending aortic graft puts a strain on the rest of the native (distal, descending) aorta. This would seem to indicate the need to monitor the descending aorta, perhaps by CT scan.

Have you had surgery? They want a CT scan in my case to check on the status of the Dacron replacement ascending aorta.

I learned something interesting when I asked the surgical personnel what they were looking for in these repetitive CT scans. I was told that my replacement ascending aorta has sutured joints, it is not a continuous section of hose. So they check for the status of these joined sections to see if...
