Glad you let us know you are still waiting. That sucks when you are all geared up and ready to go. Keep us up to date. I have been thinking about you. I am 23 days post op no pain or pain pills needed. I seem to get a low grade fever about 99.5 every evening and take Tylenol for that. Prayers...

    Over the top, on descent

jhc1, welcome to the other side! I had my first shower the day after surgery. Feels wonderful. 21 days post op and I walked a mile and a 1/2 today for over an hour and 15 minutes. You are well on your way my friend. Do what they say and you will be good as new sooner rather than later!

After only 2 years tissue valve needs to be replaced with a mechanical valve

Genine, acceptance is the hardest part. So, re-educate yourself and just get it done. I am 21 days post op now with my new on-x mechanical valve and the Coumadin thing has not been bad so far. Keep your chin up and know their is always someone worse off than you. So sorry you are having to go...

On the other side but still climbing!

Suzanne, glad you are finally on the other side now. I am 20 days post op now. At first I was getting a little discouraged because my brain wanted me to go faster etc but my body wouldn't let me. Today I walked 1 1/2 miles at the mall. Took two small rest stops on the way. Got my bandage off...

ON-X valve, do you require a wind machine to get to sleep?

I never heard mine but really felt it but that is lessening every day. It means you are alive if you hear or feel it! Embrace the sound!

How many of you chose your valve type based on what others on here went with?

Liam, there is no right or wrong answer to your choice of a valve. I did my research and decided on an on-x valve. I did have trouble finding a Dr. here in the Seattle area that would implant one. Found Dr. Glenn Barnhart at Swedish Medical Center, Cherry Hill location, Seattle. That is the only...

Only you guys an understand this

Canon-for me the vent is a vague memory. I had a nurse, John, who was fabulous in letting me wake up a minute and seeing if I could breath myself, not then off to dream land again. I was only on the vent 4 hours after surgery. He said take a breath and then it was out. Sorry your experience has...

    When to return to work?

The only thing I would caution about is your sternum. My cardiologist told me 8 weeks is good but 12 weeks is the best chance of you not doing any damage to your sternum. He said he had seen too many people lift, push, pull etc too early only to do damage to their sternum which affected the rest...

Sounds like you are home and doing good Phil. I to, have had the same waking up problem until last night (day 13) of recovery I slept 5 whole hours then had to wake up for a bathroom break but back to sleep for 3 more. Makes a huge difference in your daytime activities if you can sleep. Haven't...

    The countdown begins

Amy, there are no words before your surgery except you will be so glad when it is done and over with. The pain is no unbearable. The prodding and poking and waking you up is worst than the pain. I did use the oxy at night time just to be able to get a couple hours of sleep in and the nurses, if...

    On-X Valve Questions

Electlive, I only met with Dr. Barnhart once before my surgery. We did not go into much detail about the study I was talking about above. I will on my month visit with him ask for more information and specifics and post here when I get them. Thanks for your take on the situation. I understand...
