    Prep question

All they replaced was my aortic valve to. They did have to do a full incision because of my arties and the way they curved etc. Don't be surprised if something changes and you have to have a full incision when they do your surgery. Hope not, but just be prepared. Good luck with it all. You will...

    9 days and counting

Val, waiting is the hardest part. Get some good books or download some great movies. Spend time with family and friends. Next Thursday will be here before you know it. - Kim

One-year after surgery and I feel great! You will too.

I am 6 weeks post surgery. You are doing the best thing for yourself that you ever could. I totally agree with all the positive posts here on this website. I am now walking faster and further than I have in 8 years. There will be a few hiccups on the way. I can honestly say the recovery thus far...

    Regression this evening

I have had those pains to. Finally, after (6) weeks most pains are going away. Still wake up in the morning and around my scar it is sore. Feels like my scar drew up in the night and I have to stretch to make sure it didn't shrink up. lol. I think we all have little aches and pains. You will get...

Anxiety and overblown worry during recovery

Steprightup - I am 53 and 6 weeks post AVR. I tend to look at the cup as half full and not half empty. Look at all the positives you have in life and don't dwell on what if's. Easier said than done but you have to start somewhere. Everyday I can feel myself getting better and say yippee all the...

    Hit a road bump..!

I had pvc's and afib after my surgery. Change of medication and "not stressing" over it all helped the pvc's. They seem to have disappeared. Afib is gone also. Take a deep breath and try to not notice them as much. Good luck with it all.

    Prep question

Heather Anne, Since I am the financial person in our household, I made a list of all our accounts with login and passwords (just in case - I had read here that some people have a foggy memory) and explained it all to my husband. I also put lots of bills on auto pay. That was nice when I got...

Time to make a final decision, need some help please

During my research, Emory came up very high in the ranks for hospitals and AVR surgery. I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and have had no issues with my On-x valve. Do your research, educate yourself and go for the surgery. I feel better now 5 weeks after surgery than I did 3 years pre surgery. Good luck...

Today feels like a new day

I took the oxy for (3) weeks post op. Then went to Tylenol for (1) week. I am now 5 1/2 weeks post op and not taking anything. I did notice after not taking the oxy I could walk more and actually breath better. Took (3 1/2) weeks post op for me to sleep in the bed. Now I am sleeping 7 hours...

On the other side but still climbing!

Great going Suzanne! It is really cool when you go visit your cardiologist and they tell you no murmur! Sounds like you are doing great! Keep up the good works and it only gets better! After all the overwhelming stuff we have been through it is a little "weird" to think you can be "normal"...

    My official post op thread

Keep up the good work Sood. I can't do the cardio rehab as it is 1 1/2 hours away from the house. So I have done my own research and have been pushing my walks more everyday. When did you start the free weights how much did you start with? - Kim

A couple of post op questions.

I lost 12 pounds 5 weeks post op and still haven't gained it back. I could still lose a few more pounds myself. I am eating regular and all is good. I hope with my increased walking (that I finally am able to do after 10 years of warnings of not doing heavy exercise) I will be able to drop a few...

    5 weeks tomorrow

Good going Phil. I am 5 1/2 weeks out now. I have noticed for the first time (2) days ago that I actually have got more energy now than before my surgery. I am walking (2) miles with a few small hills now faster and without stopping (except to check my heart rate)! Way better than before my...

Daily impact to your life from being on blood thinners...?

I think my problem is that I don't eat the same amount of salad per week per say. I don't really like any of the other things like spinach, broccoli, kale etc. To eat salad when I want and be consistent is not in my diet. So, I eat lettuce on my sandwich and that's about it. Don't miss the salad...

    Newbie (sort of)

Go for it. I am now (5) weeks post AVR and yesterday I went for a mile walk and went up a hill I use to walk and guess what? I didn't have to stop. My heart rate got up to 133 but I made it to the top of that hill without stopping. Talk about happy! I had been in the waiting room for 10 years...

    Prep question

I am (5) weeks post op. My husband has been home the whole time. The most difficult thing for me at first was just how much energy it took to do anything, like taking a shower etc. Barring any complications you will be able to do most things for yourself but your cardiologist will heavily advise...
