Add One More to the Roster

I was in the waiting room for almost 10 years. I had symptoms of breathlessness, tiredness, etc. It took me almost 28 minutes to walk a mile. I am 53. When the time came, it was emotional and a little scary. Only this website and the people on it gave me the courage I needed. I am almost 11...

    Surgery on Wednesday 7th August

Good luck to both of you. Just getting done is the hardest part. We look forward to trading stories with you after you are on the other side of the mountain. I am 10 weeks post op for AVR. Pre surgery was the worst part. Recovery is great and I am like Leah, what surgery besides the Coumadin...

Traveling full time while on Coumadin?

Thanks for your input. I have followed your postings about your different meters and find it very informative. I would not travel without my own meter/supplies but would test weekly or more if needed. I would follow up monthly with a clinic on the road somewhere and then call in my own results...

Traveling full time while on Coumadin?

My husband and I are thinking about traveling the US for around a year. I am currently getting my Coumadin levels under control 10 weeks post op for AVR surgery on May 23, 2013. Have any of you ever traveled that long while on Coumadin. I would wait until my Coumadin levels are stable then start...

    Colonoscopy reqd

My dr told me before my Colonoscopy, they would take me off of Coumadin for 5 days and bridge me with (forgive me but I forget the meds they use) shots and then have my colonoscopy, remove any polyps. They would then restart my Coumadin. The inr clinic can help you with any information you would...

    which valve???????

I chose a mechanical valve after all of my research. My heart beat so loud before my AVR surgery that the faint ticking, that I only hear sometimes, is a non issue. I figure if I hear it, I am alive. I am 10 weeks post op and feeling great. Went camping for the first time this weekend and had...

6 weeks post op heart rate?

I am 9 weeks post op and my resting heart rate is in the low 80's now. I catch it sometimes getting in the 78 to 79 range. So I think, just like your Dr. said and all those here. It will go down a little at a time. Mine was in the 90's there for a while also.

    Seeing my surgeon on Thursday

maisiejan, Reading this forum is the only thing that really helped me through the fear of having surgery. Educated yourself, believe in your Drs. and just go for it. Funny on the actual day of the surgery my family was way more stressed out than me. I had done all I could do and it was in my...

    Scar redness

My dermatologist told me not to put anything on the scar. I am really fair skinned. My scar is still really red 9 weeks post surgery. It is crooked to. lol. Hope it will eventually just be a faint white line. Badge of courage I say.

One more test before AVR - haven't been on in awhile wanted to share what's next

Genine, I am so sorry you have to have repeat surgery. I chose an on-x valve prior to my AVR on May 23, 2013. I do feel it early in the morning beating but have only heard it clicking one time. I figure if I hear it clicking I am alive. I am 9 weeks out from OHS and they are still trying to...

Need some advice please - thoughts on the Plavix/ Aspirin clinical trial?

Once I get more regulated, I do intend to get a home monitoring device. Who writes the prescription for that? Your cardio dr? Thanks for your input. I do look forward to not having to go to a clinic every week. - Kim

Should I choose a mechanical valve or a tissue valve?

Interesting article. Guess that means I am already behind times with the On-x valve I got. :) Thanks for sharing.

Need some advice please - thoughts on the Plavix/ Aspirin clinical trial?

I am 2 months post op and they are having a time trying to regulate my Coumadin level. One week 1.9 the next 4.2 etc. I haven't had any diet changes. They seem to think I am really sensitive to the Coumadin. We will see what it is tomorrow. Hope it is in range. I get to go every week for a...
