ChicagoMammy, I wrote letters a month before my surgery to my spouse, sisters, mother and father and two grown children. Made me feel better. Gave my letters to my children and sisters about 6 months after my AVR surgery. Husband doesn't want to read it. I also wrote in detail all passwords for...

One day and one step at a time. I am 6 months out and even to this date...I find I didn't stop for two weeks and it all caught up with me so I had to actually take a day to rest. Just listen to your body. I know when I had Pneumonia..that knocks you off your socks for several weeks energy wise...

How long does it take to come round from anaesthetic ?

I went into surgery at around 1 pm out of surgery at 5 pm. Awoke on vent at 5:15 pm...put me back on sedation until vent came out at 9 pm in ICU. Alert the rest of the night. In regular room next morning no tubes except the one in my neck. Went home 4 days later.

Whats the longest you have gone post op without having your mechanical valve checked?

Had my aortic valve replaced with an on-x 21mm valve in May. I have every intention of going for my annual echo. Have to prove to them that they did a good job with me and my heart. :-)

Tormented over where to go for surgery--Charlotte, NC or Cleveland/Mayo Clinic

Sorry about your uncle. I interviewed (3) doctors in the Seattle, WA area for my OHS to replace my aortic valve. Funny, I chose the oldest (62 years) one that was the most up to date after the research I did. He was the only Dr. out of the three who would use the On-x valve which is what I...

    Hi All, I'm Alex

Alex, I was in the waiting room for almost 10 years. They didn't discover from all of my echo's and tests that I had BAV until the Dr. actually did my AVR surgery in May 23, 2013. Educated yourself. There is a wealth of knowledge here on this board. It is what took away most of my anxiety...

Took me 7 week till I could get back to my preferred sleeping habits (on my stomach). My upper back between my neck and my shoulder have finally went away after 5 months since surgery. I even forgot my 5 month anniversary from AVR till I went to bed that night. So time is your friend. Feel...

Almost 6 months post op, possible coumadin issue

Hmm, seems like you need to check with the doc sood. I don't like all that stuff with vitamin k so I haven't had any issues. I do eat salad but the same amount every week. Just have gotten my Coumadin pretty stable in the last month. Had my AVR May 23, 2013. Let us know what comes of it all.

3.5 months post op and a bunch of questions

I already had an 8 inch scar from a 10 lb baby boy, then I got a 10 inch scar from an 11 lb 3 oz baby girl. Got an appendix scar at 11 years old. I figure what is one more 10 inch scar to keep me alive. No worries here. Badge of life I say.

One month post op and my heart is still pounding like a hammer--this is normal?

I feel mine thumping, don't hear it to often. I figure, I am alive and it is good to feel it thumping. Funny how we all feel/hear something different.

    waiting............

I am almost 5 months post AVR surgery. Now I say...what surgery. If I didn't have this 10 inch scar down my chest and taking Coumadin I wouldn't know (besides feeling way better) that I ever had surgery. Take heart but remember not to rush anything. It will come as everyone here advises you. I...

wisdome and truth for those in the waiting room

Agian, I believe in God and his son Jesus Christ. Thanks for your comment. I must say for me personally, I have experienced my prayers being answered very specifically. So there is no doubt for me that God exists. Just my two cents worth. Blessings to you. AVR May 23, 2013. On-x 21mm valve. Dr...

    Ejection Fraction question

I interviewed (3) surgeons before my AVR surgery. Did my homework and decided to use the last one I interviewed. I fired my cardiologists right after my follow up visit with him after surgery. Got a new one and I am very please with him and his staff. You need a Dr. who will answer your calls...
