Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

I'm roughly 15 months post-op (Onyx mech-valve and a new ascending aorta due to an aneurysm) and just had my first "post-recovery" echo. LVEF was 30% pre-op, 42% immediately post-op and 56.7% as of a week ago. I would guess my EF has increased about 1% per month post-op (starting from the...

How get used to permanent metal click after aortic valve replacement

I only notice mine if I'm watching tv and it gets to a quiet scene (click-click-click-click)... and when I lay down in bed, especially if my arm is across my chest, creating a sound reflector back towards my head. I'm 5 months post-op.

    Mechanical Valve leakage?

I'm definitely going to bring this up to my Surgeon and Cardiologist, thanks for the info!

    Mechanical Valve leakage?

I thought your INR seemed high. I guess I may have a newer style of On-X as after the initial 90-day period, I only have to keep my INR at 1.5-2.0 (2.0-3.0 for the first 90-days). Mine was installed in June '21.

    Surgery is Complete

So get this... I go in on Friday for my first post-op appointments. I'm walking (slowly) from the parking structure all through the hospital. First, went and got my pacemaker scanned & tuned. Had a weird series of AFIB runs that they couldn't unlatch until the took me to 200bpm (quite a few...

    Surgery is Complete

My INR from Monday was 2.5, today was 3.5 (so they're rolling me back half tonight from (7.5 to 3.75). My BP has been a consistently in the low 100's over low to mid 60's (like 107/62 & 108/65, etc...).

    Surgery is Complete

Quick update with a question: I was discharged last Thursday after lunch, came home, and have been getting stronger. I am completely weened off of narcotics (took last oxy Friday morning upon waking sore.) I walked around the downstairs very briefly on Thursday (maybe 2x but I had walked prior...

    Surgery is Complete

Woohoo, I got the pacemaker installed yesterday afternoon. Just when I was starting to feel human again (pain-wise), this felt okay for about 12-hours and now feels like I was kicked in the chest by a horse, lol. I’m being over-dramatic but that muscle pain is completely different type of pain...

    Surgery is Complete

I appreciate all of the well wishes! I’ve been reading but not always energetic enough to reply lately. That, and I’m on my phone which is harder for me to focus on sometimes. Everything appears to be going well. Had the chest tubes pulled an hour ago and went for a walk. Not feeling much...

    Surgery is Complete

Had my aorta and aortic valve (On-X) replaced Wednesday morning. Think my nerve bundle may have been compromised as my atrial and ventricular pulses aren’t syncing (gotta be honest I’m not real knowledgeable on this topic). They have me on an external pacer for now. Made it through ICU...

Pre-surgery consultation - list of questions

I appreciate everybody that chimed in on this thread. Had my pre-op on Wednesday and asked a lot of the questions in this thread that I otherwise would have never thought about. I felt so much better leaving there with much more info than I had anticipated.

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

Is the goal set to 2.0-2.5? My surgery is next Wednesday and this is what I was told my goal would be with the On-X.

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

As a newb to this forum, this was an odd, surprise finding. I've been having an ocular migraines for as long as I've been diagnosed with my TAA. Starts off as some unfocused light diffraction on the periphery that slowly turns into unfocused sparkling halo's, making it difficult to read as it...

    5 Years!

Unfortunately, yes. Their entire online and app portals are still down. It put me on the fence between going forward with Scripps or going up to Stanford to have Dr. Craig Miller do it (he was my 2nd opinion). Stanford had offered surgery on June 10th. The Stanford 2nd opinion appt. was run...

Just Set a Date for Surgery

Hola! I've been lurking for a while, figured I'd introduce myself. I'm a 51yo man, 6' (1.8m) @225 pounds with a history of mild, nuisance issues. I was diagnosed in the 90's with Sinus Bradycardia & AV Nodal Re-Entrant Tachycardia (bpm is normally around 45-55 with the occasional spike to...
