    Hard to trust many doctors

. That was some story. I know I had a ct calcium score done as a test patient and it was “7”, & at 400 it is advised to get studied with a heart cath. In retrospect all the calcium was sitting on valve, close to the right and left coronary ostia. Maybe that explains the chest pain with no...

    Hard to trust many doctors

I have to agree with everyone here to go get er done. One of my lab personnel is same age as I am and her aortic opening is .6 and she was going to go in for stress test and cardiologist said what’s the point. So she is going the Tavr route. I have been on the manufacturer’s site and the...

    Breathing Tube Fear

I vaguely remember being told to take a deep breath and the next memory I have is being wheeled in chair to step down unit where I stayed until dismissed 3 long days later. When I heard the voice I knew I had made to the other side and realized that I was alive. Hardest thing I have ever done...

Let's set some goals! A throwdown!

I would put the tank treads on the Teryx4. They sell em.

Let's set some goals! A throwdown!

I would like to get back in the water scuba diving again. Haven’t done it for 5 years now. Getting in good enough shape for a dive trip somewhere. I miss it. I used to do underwater photography. Had over 1000 dives in my past in several places around the world. Never did a dive trip to the...

first case of amputation due to non compliance with an on x aortic valve

It is sobering to read about this young woman. In the article it states she had was screened for factor 5 Leiden deficiency and other inborn errors of coagulation so non-compliance is probably the cause. I encourage patients to have their own inr machine to get invested in their care. Take...

Natural history of aortic stenosis Schematic representation of the natural history of aortic stenosis and of the major impact of aortic valve replacement. Survival is excellent during the prolonged asymptomatic phase. After the development of symptoms, however, mortality exceeds 90 percent...

    Hard to trust many doctors

I thought my gradient at 60 mm was considered bad. You top mine, don’t know why valve surface area appears moderate and not severe. Go get your surgery you probably have crap hanging on valve waiting to be dislodged and potentially could mean lights out. I regret not doing mine sooner and...

    Life after OHS

I live in Kansas so I like to go to Arkansas in the Ouachita mountains. Gone to Southeastern Colorado. We also have some dunes in Oklahoma. Want to take it to Moab, Utah and do some rock climbing. Real nice to go into secluded woods and bring a lunch.

    cuts on warfarin

Not recommended to start taking antibiotics for a cut. Doing basic first aid by cleansing coupiously the wound and then dressing it with perhaps bactoban. Oral antibiotics are not indicated . I knew an old trauma surgeon that once said: “ The solution to pollution is dilution”. The resistance...

    Routine tooth cleaning - Precautions

It is a well known fact that common throat bacteria have been identified in cardiac tissue. To my knowledge valvular replacement is the only reason to get antibiotic prophylaxis. Ortho physicians want it done for artificial joints but there isn’t any evidence of that the benefits of protecting...

    Superglue and wounds (on warfarin)

Super glue is great! It saved a dive trip once. I had cut my hand on some sharp coral at 70ft depth (blood is green at that depth). I had some superglue to mend stuff like wet suit. My wife put it on the wound and I was able to continue diving the rest of the week.

    Coumadin & NSAIDs

Yes I currently use celecoxib for back musculoskeletal pain that I only take occasionally. My cardiologist was ok with it. I check my INR at home so it really is not a problem.

    Exercise Test

I think if you can go 6 minutes on a standard treadmill it helps to decide if you can continue your waiting game before you get your valve replaced. If you can go 6 minutes without issues that is a good prognostication for the next 6 to 12 months.

Have most of you recovered or actually improved since surgery/post op ?

I am 63 Y/O, just do my cardiac rehab with my Apple Watch and try to close all 3 rings every day. Now still have some minor arthritis that it didnt cure but doing around 10K steps. The heart no longer has a governor on it. My carb is opening and closing like it was intended to do. :)

    Covid Vaccines

Unfortunately, there is a lot of vaccine hesitancy where I am located. I cannot believe all the nonsense I have heard. Everything from the vaccine being developed in embryonic tissue (false), developed too quickly (false been working on this technology for over 30 years), affecting child...

Have most of you recovered or actually improved since surgery/post op ?

I am 68 days postop from AVR. Back to work about 3 weeks ago. Walking 3 miles a day feel 10 years younger. Surgeon says it should improve over next 4 months. Energy level is great. No rhythm problems. Surgeon tied off left atrial appendage to prevent any a fib and so far in sinus rhythm...
