    Aspirin in conjunction with Warfarin

I have to second the pill box because after doing this a couple of years now I often ask myself or my wife “Did I take my pills tonight?”. I don’t think I have dementia yet but you sort of become an automaton going thru the same routines every day. I am a board certified family physician so I...

    Some photos to relax with.

Wow these are all amazing images. Just recently got my 1st mirrorless camera a Nikon Z6II , unbelievable iso settings of 58,000. No need for flash photography along with image stabilization in body. I got a Nikon adapter to use all my 35mm lenses. The video ability is awesome with these...

Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

Make sure you are doing your rehab every day. Walking , anything you can muster to condition the heart. The heart usually has to remodel itself after AVR. You need to go over your meds with your cardiologist to see if you need to back off B blockers. Echo’s are not perfect and it depends on...

    Aspirin in conjunction with Warfarin

It is supposed to increase the anticoagulative properties by 40% on top of the warfarin. I take an 81 mg asa a day. If I am going to do lower inr I am all in with taking both,

    Tell me your rxperiences

I always tell people that in the afterlife we will see a beautiful pastoral scene on a tapestry but in this life we see the flip side of that tapestry which looks like 100’s of threads going in different directions. It’s all about perspective.

Smartwatch / Wearable for Heart recommendations

I just got an Apple Watch Ultra. Best watch I have ever owned so far. To top it off with the oceanic app it turns it into a dive computer with Nitrox gas algorithms built in. Excellent topside and underwater compass. They had a few sales here earlier. The watch is capable of doing a lead 1...

Has anyone had Covid interfere with Coumadin and INR levels?

Inr checked today and it’s 1.7. Going to go up about 5 % more warfarin. Will go up .5 mg a week to a total of 6.5 mg a week to keep it at around 2. Currently at 6mg/week. INR management is not rocket science. Check your inr to see where you are at .

Has anyone had Covid interfere with Coumadin and INR levels?

I have had the vid twice now on top of 3 vaccinations. Took Lagevrio and just felt like a cold. No INR changes. Have to hold off the bivalent booster for 3 months after infection. Lagevrio has no med interactions while Paxlovid does. I always press easy button.

    Amiodarone and tremors

Takes several months for free T4 and tsh to stabilize. Half life of amiodarone is 45 days or so. Unusual presentation of amiodarone toxicity. Didn’t want to use methimazole just took patient off amiodarone and let nature get rid of it.

    Eliquis instead of Coumadin

It’s interesting, I just had a patient request to go off of Eliquis for the expense and the bid dosing. He doesn’t take it for a valve but for a-fib. He was given permission to switch by his cardiologist on the advice that I manage his INR. Takes a small amount of Coumadin once a day with no...

Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

I had an almost immediate improvement in my left ventricular wall thickness in about 2 months as demonstrated by echo compared prior to surgery. My resting pulse is 58-60 and I only take 25 of metoprolol a day. Down from a 100 mg/day. I hade grade 1 diastolic dysfunction (beginnings of...

    US hospital charging by WSJ

That’s one of the reasons are health care system is broken. System makes money off of people’s health misfortunes. The only way the system will get fixed is if we have national health care that follows USPTF guidelines and stops trying to make a profit off of health care which everyone needs...

    Just found out.

Welcome Monica the forum will serve you well. I am 22 months sp AVR . It was pretty scary thinking about it when I first found out I had a bicuspid valve approximately 3 years earlier when my valve was at 1.3 cm . It got down to .7 and I was quite symptomatic with chest pains, shortness of...

This might bring some anticoagulation changes

I have never heard of ferroptosis only apoptosis. Programmed cellular death. If the mechanism doesn’t work well it can lead to cancer, autoimmune diseases, and all sorts of nasty stuff. We are pre-programmed to die, unsettling concept.

Need to educate myself and decide

Ditto at 64. I wanted to be one and done. At 14 months I am running over a couple of miles now and yesterday I replaced the rotors and brakes on my truck. I would not have been able to do this with my old junky BAV. It’s no problem with carbon fiber valve. Interesting the brake pads are...
