    Update!

Oakland Coliseum, sigh… My family had great fun going to events there like Raiders, A’s, concerts. I would ask to go to a game on Mother’s Day!

The Beat Goes On... Just got some funk to it

My a-fib started 3 years after my 3rd surgery. I was cardioverted back to rhythm. Two years later, back into a-fib but cardio version didn’t work. I’ve been in chronic a-fib since ‘14. It took some getting used to , but now it just beats whenever it wants and I don’t much think about it. Not...

    Questions about treatment options

In 2009 my surgeon told me to expect 10 years from a homograft. I was in my 50’s. You got a good long time from yours. I got another mechanical!

    Cardiac Catheterization

That suppository photo made me laugh and remember my time as a pharmacy tech before you had to take classes and be certified. Mine was on the job training. We used to type “Insert one suppository rectally etc.”. Over time the instruction on the box changed to “Unwrap and insert etc”. I used to...

Anyone had 3 valve replacement surgeries?

I’ve had 3 aortic valve replacements. At 34, surgeon wanted to give me porcine in case I wanted another child. Then after he saw my aorta fall apart in his hands during surgery, he still gave me porcine but recommended I not have another pregnancy. He said he’d seen porcine last 15 yrs, but...

3 Weeks to go......... to Big Surgery

My 3rd surgery was a two surgeon job. When I woke up I felt very good. No renal issues, but I had a partially collapsed lung which resolved and also a pressure sore on my heel! That was annoying and took a long time to heal.

    Questions about treatment options

I had my mitral valve repaired in 09 and it’s now leaking moderate to severe. Not sure if it’s like comparing apples to oranges with the different valve. My cardiologist only said to me that they see the repair fail.

    12 years and counting

Excellent! I appreciated you thanking your wife! In 35 years, I’ve had 3 AVR’s. My aortic valve looks good on my echos. Here’s to many more years!

    Mechincal valve

For some of us, it takes longer to get used to hearing this thumping. It probably was 2 years before I was able to go to bed and just fall asleep without thinking about my valve. Mine is noisy, like a basketball hitting a wood floor, but I carry on playing in orchestra and symphonic wind...

Should I push to replace my mid ascending aorta?

My aneurysm measurement was 6 before surgery. When I read the notes after surgery, it was apparently 7. It fell apart in my surgeon’s hands when he was going to cut it and place a graft inside then close it. He had to cut it out and just do the graft along with valve replacement. That was at...

    LVAD

Yes, he’s trying to get his own meter. His range is 2-3, but it was 1.5 when he left so Carolina. I would’ve brought mine and tested him if I’d known! He’s in good spirits. His wife now is his sterile dressing changer and she takes care of her 95 yo Mom who moved there to live with them before...

    Interesting phone deal

ATT. Yes, my daughter and I are both paying too much, but we get service when others with another plan don’t. I think my daughter is paying $84!

    LVAD

Thank you!! He’s a great brother, Father Husband and Grandpa! He got this pump and went back to his job of 43 years at a well known bank! Amazing!

    Interesting phone deal

Wow! Where do you get that price? I’m paying $63 for mine and it’s a no frills plan but good enough for how I use the phone.

    Interesting phone deal

That’s super inexpensive. I’m paying a bunch for AT&T. Here’s a fun story: our wind symphony performed a concert last year to a full house. The maestro had attended a concert where a presentation was available on the audience’s cell phones, so our group did that. Well, some of the audience had...

    LVAD

I saw my brother-in-law on Saturday. He is now outfitted with a LVAD. His heart was in very bad shape. He had OHS to have this pump installed. He lives in So Carolina. He’s decided to go for a heart transplant but they have to run tests to determine if he’s a candidate. He’s only early 60’s...

Should I push to replace my mid ascending aorta?

I never knew the AA replacement added to the risk. I just thought it was an overall risk to have valve replacement and all that goes with it. Thankfully, my AA has been replaced twice and now it shouldn’t need anymore intervention. My surgeon didn’t say the AA made it more of a risky surgery so...

AVR need to do my 1st Colonoscopy, freaking out.

You can do a colonoscopy without holding warfarin, but if they find anything that needs removal, they will not do it and you’ll have to prep for another colonoscopy and deal with stopping warfarin and however else the doc wants to do it at a later date. That’s what I’ve been told when they...

What areas should i research more?

My top surgeon at Stanford chose Carbomedic top hat for my 2nd and 3rd avr (3rd due to endocarditis). I didn’t even want to assume to tell him which mechanical valve I wanted. I believe he did discuss st Jude, but went with Carbomedic both times. I’m only 5’7”, lean and he gave me 25m my last...

8 year anniversary with On-X AVR and MV Repair

That’s great your mitral repair looks the same. Cardiologist’s know that mitral repairs sometimes fail. Mine failed and I’m now at mod to severe. My echo showed severe but the TEE I did recently showed still mod to severe. My original cardiologist said I would never need another surgery. He...
