11 years with tissue valve. Anyone longer?

Update - I met with my surgeon the week after Thanksgiving and things are still going well. I've been getting checkups every six months for the past two years and my valve is still doing its job. 03/19/17 will be 13 years since I had AVR. I'm quite pleased.

    Staying the Course -- 11-14-2016

Me too, Bob. That is I've eaten way too much junk the past few days. We've been celebrating my husband''s birthday for about 4 days now with chips and queso, burritos, fried chicken, German chocolate cake, and who knows what else. That cake is so good, even if I say so myself. I only make it...

Glad you home and posting! I hope the vomiting subsides soon - I remember that well. Or rather, my husband does. He held the vomit bucket for me. That's true love. We were still newlyweds:)

Hi, Dakota. Welcome. You've come to a good place. I was diagnosed as a child and did not have surgery until I was 31. I am now 43. I was born into a BAV family. There are at least 4 of us with this congenital defect. My Mom is 65 and has not had surgery. She is fortunate in that her valve has...

Why did my doc say that he would choose a tissue valve for me?

Hi Heartsong. My doctor presented tissue as an option for me, even though this will be my 2nd valve AVR, because of new advancements, valve in valve surgery, etc. I have not considered tissue for my 2nd surgery because I am hoping the next one will be the final one. I simply don't want to...

My incision - 5 days post op

Fred, looks like you are healing nicely. Mineral oil helped me get rid of the tape residue. Just swab it on and rub like you are taking odd fingernail polish or clean Jong brass, etc.

    Repeat Surgeries

Thanks, Pellicle. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, as well. These things tend to stay with us. Right, one never gets over it; but, I think it's been especially tough for my Mom since she's had to watch another child go through AVR. I didn't think she was going survive my decision to get a...

    Repeat Surgeries

Thank you. It was 25 years ago, two days before his 15th birthday and 3 days after my 18th. My Mom still grieves as if it just happened and I can't imagine what that is like for her. The funny thing is, the actual valve replacement was a success, even with the major complications from the scar...

11 years with tissue valve. Anyone longer?

My homograft was implanted 12.5 years ago at one month past my 31st birthday. I'm now getting into the replacement time / window. I've been seeing my surgeon every six months for the past 18. I see him again this coming Nov. to see if it's time. My valve area is .9; but, the mean pressure...

It almost feels like I"m back in The Waiting Room. . .

Steve, that stinks. So frustrating. I think many folks in the medical field forget that what is routine for them is uncommon for the non medical types. I hope this us not a precursor to things to come. The waiting is the hardest part IMO. Especially for action oriented people!

    Those with aortic regurgitation

Hi, beneficii. I had a stenosed and regurgitating bicuspid aortic valve prior to valve replacement surgery in 2004. I chose a homograft and I have another surgery in my future. My aortic valve is moderately leaking and the other 3 valves have a mild leak. I was very sick prior to my valve...

    Staying the Course -- 03/14/2016

Hey, ya'll. I am winding down from a very stressful couple of months. My mother in law passed away this past Sunday and we had her memorial service on Wed. She was one of the greatest generation and had a life span that many of us will not see - 93 years, 7 months, and 17 days. I have...
