    Trifecta Valve Concerns

Your story resonates with me. I had a homograft at age 31. It lasted 13 years. I chose a mechanical for the subsequent redo at age 44. Unfortunately, they could not fit me for a mechanical valve and implanted a tissue valve (Edwards magna ease 3300tfx). I had cardiac tamponade and had to go back...

    Drinking--and driving post op

My discharge instructions following my redo AVR on 9/20/17 stated that I could begin to drive after 2 weeks. I was discharged on day 7 in the hospital so they basically gave me a restriction of 3 weeks. The first time I had surgery I was advised to wait 6 weeks and I waited a little longer than...

On this side of the mountain for the 2nd time

Thanks, Pellicle. I do,plan to ask the surgeon when I see him next week. I am sure that the word "flexible" was just a poor word choice in an attempt to dumb it down for me to understand....also, I was still under the influence when we had the initial conversation so perhaps I heard something...

    4 Days Out

Sorry you are in so much pain. That must be very difficult to deal with on top of the insomnia. I am a couple of weeks out from redo AVR and I can relate to the insomnia in the hospital. The best sleep I had was in CICU! I slept in the recliner in the room on the floor for an hour or two at a...

On this side of the mountain for the 2nd time

Paleowoman, yes, you have it right. The tissue valves are more flexible and can be fitted into a smaller space. He tried a 19 mech, the smallest he was willing to go, and it was too large. He said he could have possibly fit a 17mm but that is more of a child's size and my result would have...

On this side of the mountain for the 2nd time

This is my post. I don't know why it doesn't show up as me because I was logged in. Or why my post looks like one paragraph when I didn't type it that way!

4 Days to decide between bio and mechanical aortic valve

I find it interesting that so many of you have surgeons that make a recommendation one way or the other. My surgeon simply states the facts, at present, and says it is completely up to me. He says that I must decide this myself. My cardiologist is in favor of a mechanical valve for me at 44. He...

Looks like I'm taking the 4th quarter off of work

Just continuing the chronicle of this journey - I had the left and right heart cath a week ago Fri. and my arteries are clean, so I'm cleared for surgery. I don't know what the pressures are, not sure I actually care to know, but will find out at he follow-up appointment on 7/18. My dad died...

Looks like I'm taking the 4th quarter off of work

Heart cath will be this Friday afternoon (6/16). It has been a long time since I've had one of those. The didn't do a cath before my first surgery because of my young age;but, I had one somewhere around 2-3 years before the surgery with a different doctor. I was was a little surprised they...

Looks like I'm taking the 4th quarter off of work

dreamy885 , yes I am so grateful to have paid leave and disability insurance. This is my 2nd surgery. I lived off of my savings the first time around, so I empathize with you. That's amazing that you are back at work at less than 4 weeks post op!!!! I went back to work at 9 weeks after my first...

Looks like I'm taking the 4th quarter off of work

Cindi, it's a small world indeed. I actually live just past Beulah, in AL, about 2 miles over the FL border. I am not a native of this area; but, I've been here almost twenty years so it is home!
