Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

It might be worthwhile trying to find a better job. It seems many new positions have opened up since Covid, so your chances may be improved. That current job is certainly not good for your health! Hang in there and get some rest.

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

I'm starting to wonder if I'm in that category now. Significantly more fatigue since getting over Covid last early October. Need more sleep now than before. How are you feeling @slipkid ?

Getting closer to needing aortic valve repalcement surgery still uninsured living in Thailand

Sorry, I tend to be very direct at times. My NY upbringing I guess. Similar to Australia. Direct & honest. I recall many good suggestions for you last year. It appears that your geographical location has not changed and as predicted, your health is slowly getting worse. It appears that you do...

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

Quick comment on this. I did not go in and read the attached so do not know the dates or how old. All I know is that I spoke with Lars about his thoughts on the Ross procedure last year. He is not a fan nor advocate and does not do the procedure. This may be another sensitive topic where he...

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

Similar experience. Ascending aorta replaced with Dacron tube. Unicuspid native valve fixed / cleaned up as best as possible and "spared". Lasted 7.5 years. Then severely stenotic and calcified. Back in for a replacement OnX valve. Redo surgery regardless of your condition doubles your risk of...

New here - BAV replacement scheduled for 2/9/22

Somewhat understandable. You only mentioned a BAV. Do you also have an enlarged ascending aorta? Of course do not push yourself too hard, but any movement is better than no movement. Try walking at a faster pace or for longer periods of time. Good luck!

    Aortic Valve Stenosis Complications

Yours sounds worse, as I also had pericardial effusion after my first surgery. But I was prescribed colchicine as a first attempt and it was successful. Thankfully no drains required.

New here - BAV replacement scheduled for 2/9/22

Welcome to the club! I can relate to your situation. I was 50 when initially told about my ascending aorta aneurysm and unicuspid aortic valve. The aorta was fixed at 52 and the valve just last year at almost 60. I suggest that you do not want multiple future surgeries and if so, the valve...

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

Oh yeah. The Gold Hill area lifts 14 & 15 are real nice. I've done the Plunge. Fast and a quad burner. Not this year though! Agreed on the rating system. Some of the Blue trails would be Black at other ski area's.

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

My aortic valve surgery was last February 19th. I plan to be skiing the week of Feb. 13th in Telluride, CO. I plan to take it easy and take the nice long groomed Blue trails, like See Forever, Sundance, and all the trails off of chair lift 12 (for those who know the area). No Blacks for me this...

Getting closer to needing aortic valve repalcement surgery still uninsured living in Thailand

Deja Vu. I recall many people providing many recommendations last year. Go back and read them as nothing has changed!

    Rigid Fixation help?

Before my surgery, I inquired about using this with my surgeon (Lars Svensson). It was a very brief conversation. He said no. He believes in tried and true methods. This is novel and adds unnecessary complexity.

26 year old 3 months after surgery (on-x aortic valve)

Congrats on the successful surgery and recovery. I recall my chest feeling normal right around the 3 month mark, so you should be there any day now. Did you have a full sternotomy or mini? That also can impact recovery time, in different ways.

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

Great to hear. I made the same decision and had the same valve (and size) installed Feb 2021 right before turning 60. No regrets. INR range. Same here. I also target 2.5 to 3.0 and declined participation in the Eliquis study. Take care!

    cuts on warfarin

Ever since he was a presidential candidate, ex-President Donald Trump had promised the American people a “terrific,” “phenomenal” and “fantastic” new health care plan to replace the Affordable Care Act. As usual, all talk & bluster with zero action.

    cuts on warfarin

Hang in there and watch those symptoms. Would be good if you could monitor oxygen levels to watch for potential drop. My INR went down during Covid from 2.6 to 2.1 I needed to increase Warfarin dosage. I'm sure it's different for everyone. The chills and sweats were the worst. But the...

    cuts on warfarin

Sorry to hear but you can get thru this. Suggestion, if your symptoms continue to get worse and start to approach bronchitis, start calling all local medical facilities about getting the monoclonal antibodies. Tell them about your heart condition and any other Issues. Look online for infusion...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

And there it is, ding ding we have a winner. I would venture to guess that we (the USA) spend at least as much, if not more on Administrative costs than on the actual healthcare. Think about it, for the majority of procedures, more time is spent on pre-approving, and approving, finding correct...

    INR change with weight change

Dosing: I summarized it as weekly dosing because daily can get more complex and add nothing to the conclusion. For example, until recently I was on a steady 3mg/day. Simple yes. But now on alternating days (4 of them) I increased to 3.5mg/day with 3mg/day for the other 3 days. Before the...

    INR change with weight change

Interesting. Thanks for the information. Good reads. I see dosage is correlated to weight as well, where higher weight is usually higher dosage. But my earlier thought was related to seeing what some people on here take as weekly doses (49mg) who have been on Warfarin a long time, vs me...
