    Routine tooth cleaning - Precautions

Are you all sure that antibiotics are necessary before a routine dental cleaning? Dental cleanings are non invasive and very similar to normal daily dental hygiene. The heart org endocarditis card that I received does not specify that antibiotics are required for cleanings. I guess if one...

    Superglue and wounds (on warfarin)

Probably could have if done much earlier in the process. How is your incision wound now? I'm thinking after all this time, the inside edges have healed over, and probably need to be cut and re-sutured or glued to heal together. Just a thought. Hang in there!

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Hello. Are you on any other BP meds? If not, that's understandable. There are other options with less side effects. Worth exploring. Some people have no issues with Metoprolol, whereas others it can be pretty bad. Feel better!

I agree. Should not be deleted. Good for the archives to revisit years from now.

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Hey Amy. Have any of your Doctors suggested a couple of sutures or dermabond glue to hold that small section together to heal? Seems logical to me. Or just do it yourself with Krazy Glue! Assuming no infection of course.

    Covid Vaccines

Funny that you sound exactly like Tucker Carlson. Just asking "innocent questions" that have already been answered. Are you aware of this lawsuit against Fox? Summary; a reasonably intelligent person would not believe what he says. Fox won the suit with this argument...

    Covid Vaccines

I agree. Are we (USA) the only Country in the world where Covid vaccination is split along Democratic/Republican party lines? This article is from last month, but sums it up pretty well: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/04/17/us/vaccine-hesitancy-politics.html

    Covid Vaccines

Totally agree. All of the conspiracy theories have been debunked by credible sources. The problem is, that the conspiracy believers only watch "news" sources such as: OANN, Newsmax, and Fox News, so they never see it. Brainwashed, and ignorant. But, that is just my observing opinion. If they...

    Covid Vaccines

I had mechanical Valve installed 3 months ago, and had both shots of Moderna with 2nd one a few weeks ago. Had the usual nasty reactions after the second one for 2 days, mostly chills and sweats and tired. Get the Pfizer or Moderna, not J&J. You'll be fine.

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

Are the ATS and Carbomedics valves available in the US? I've not seen them offered nor discussed in my limited interactions.

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

Thanks Pellicle. Very interesting video from the Mayo Clinic. Pretty conclusive to me. The presenter does make the comment that "surgeons tend to favor implanting tissue valves for reasons unknown". This ought to be investigated further. I don't normally believe in conspiracy theories, but the...

    2nd OHS at 67 April 26/2021

Interesting. Sorry to hear. I have a very similar issue. Turns out my #2 molar which had root canal (and crown) almost 20 years ago, has decided to get infected way down at the base of one of the roots. Oral surgeon is going to extract next week. Will be on Amoxicillan 500mg 3x per day until...

    St Jude Trifecta failure

Theoretically you may be correct, but again it is all theory. Would love to see some data, but since autopsies are not performed unless suspicious cause of death, one can't know if "Heart attack" really meant catastrophic valve failure. Yes, any mechanical device can fail just like airplanes can...

    St Jude Trifecta failure

I'm curious as to the rationale the Cardio gave you against mechanical. Please share some details. I'm also very surprised that they can do a TAVR in place of your current tissue valve. What size valve do you currently have? I'd also recommend that you speak with experienced surgeons for their...

    St Jude Trifecta failure

Hello. Yes, Warfarin is simple and a non-event. Zero side effects and very easy to self manage. Proven safe & effective over many years. My surgery was about 10 weeks ago. Full sternotomy. Pretty much back to normal and better than prior to surgery as far as aerobic capacity.

    St Jude Trifecta failure

Hello and welcome. Sorry to hear about the "early" (but average) tissue valve failure. As Chuck mentioned, if you choose tissue again, you're then looking at 3 lifetime surgeries. Not a good idea. I strongly recommend a mechanical valve and be done with this issue. My opinion and also what I...

    Cleveland Clinic Questions

Hello. Welcome to the fun times. As Mark mentioned, I also strongly recommend Dr. Lars Svensson. I was just there in February for surgery with him. He is one of the best with lots of practice. Here is the link. Click on Request an Appointment. [0]=5"]Top Cardiologists & Surgeons | Cleveland...

    Self-monitoring INR from the start

Not sure how you searched, but in March I bought a New unused Coag-Sense device off of eBay for $215 and a years supply of test strips, lancets and alcohol pads from Wilburn Medical for $228.. Works well too. No issues.

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I had a very similar experience. Very calm. Fully accepted my fate, trusted the team, and tried to find humor in everything. Was doing final stretching exercises in the hallway outside the operating room until they wheeled me in. It was an experience. Hopefully the last time for that too!
