No, mostly motorbikes, I think - he just walks funny :ROFLMAO:

Hi @Kkch.i and welcome! Two comments from me if useful: Re the night sweats - this is probably a bit random, but I get night sweats if my blood glucose level is low (I am an insulin dependent diabetic, but I wondered if this could happen post-surgery for non-diabetics?) To test for that ideally...

    Supplements, Diet and Warfarin

Glad it was useful! My dose is pretty steady at 6mg per day, but the amount does not matter - it is staying in range that does. So there is no significance if someone is taking 12mg per day and someone else 4mg. My typical dose change will be +/- 1mg if my test shows I am approaching one end...

    Supplements, Diet and Warfarin

I am firmly in the "dose the diet" camp, and give no thought to what I eat and its effect on my INR (other than knowing to generally avoid cranberry juice and grapefruit, and the limitations on certain anti-inflamatory pain meds). My diet has very limited consistency. I also take a number of...

    Coumadin 5mg availability in Australia

To my mind, it would have been equally acceptable to reduce the Coumadin dose to achieve the target INR. (I know that's not useful in the current supply issue of this thread!)

    Coumadin 5mg availability in Australia

For what it is worth: here in the UK I have been taking Warfarin for 8 years now, and have never been given Coumadin: it has always been different brands, and they appear to be treated as interchangeable. Currently my 1 and 5mg tablets are made by Crescent, and my 3mg by Almus. However, I was...

Bioimpedance Scales (bodyweight scales) and Pacemakers

Useful research. But personally I don't need them to tell. I'm more like the guy on the right ...

    Warfarin without Coumadin clnic

I find it interesting the different dose pills that are issued in different countries (a topic that has been discussed here some years ago). I am prescribed 1, 3 and 5mg pills, so that I can use them to make up most doses easily. Typically I take 6mg daily, +/- 1mg occasionally, when my...

    Warfarin without Coumadin clnic

I agree with @pellicle that it is worth trying to convince your doc you are good at managing your own INR. At the risk of boring regular readers, this report by the UK's National Institute of Clinical Excellence found better patient outcomes with home testing. Might be worth showing your...

    New member

Welcome from a fellow Brit! Sorry to hear about the 2010 rough ride, but as others have said, you should be able to resume most things you did before - though might be worth asking the doc about heading a football, if there's a risk of internal bleeding from a strong impact. Have you got a...

    Drinking alcohol on warfarin

This is wrong. There is a direct effect. See this US government report. However, in moderation, for most of us the effect is minor, and the effect of vomiting is true.

    Drinking alcohol on warfarin

Since @Tinsley99 asked this question some 2.5 years ago now, I wonder if he is still around to say how he has got on?

Best INR & warfarin dosing app

I'm not sure what it is like in the US, but here in the UK the two methods are not mutually exclusive. I self-manage normally, but if the situation gets complicated for whatever reason I have the backup of a hospital anticoagulation clinic. That way it is the best outcome for both patient and...

    Coaguchek xs test strips.recall

This issue occurred in 2018, so the affected strips are long expired now. In my post from 2018 on this thread I linked to the Roche announcement - see here - which lists the affected batches. You can test your machine by doing a test at the same time as doing one at your anticoagulation clinic...

Best INR & warfarin dosing app

I am impressed with the efforts you guys go to. In my case, my INR is pretty stable - I have been on the same daily dose for the last 2 or 3 years, with only occasional minor and temporary adjustments. The CoaguChek XS machine of course keeps a record of 100 (I think) measurements, with time and...

    Coumadin 5mg availability in Australia

Just been catching up on this issue, which currently appears to be specific to Australia. I have a Google Alert setup for Warfarin news stories, and the Sydney Morning Herald suggests supply issues will continue until July at least, and in some areas supply is so bad they are resorting to...

    MOO is Twelve!

Excellent news, Steve! I had similar fun in hospital: having gone in by ambulance as an emergency case, I spent 25 days in care in total, ending up with a mechanical valve, bypass and pacemaker. The bypass wasn't strictly needed at the time, but the surgeon said "we might as well whilst we're in...

Huge discrepancy between the lab and CoaguChek XS

Totally agree. Mine is checked every six months against the clinic's machine, as I reported earlier.

    Coaguchek xs test strips.recall

@pellicle is correct - I did not say they were mutually exclusive groups, and if you look at my profile line below you will indeed see that I am one of them. All I am saying is that there are a lot more diabetics out there monitoring their blood glucose than there are people out there monitoring...

Huge discrepancy between the lab and CoaguChek XS

Our health service did all that years ago, with hundreds of thousands of tests, and concluded the machines are similar quality results to labs. No need to keep doing the lab tests now. Good enough for me.
