Swimming with aortic aneurysm / heart issues - Safe water temperature?

LOL. Now there’s an idea. Beats warming up on the bike trainer before hand. I see you were in Prague a couple of years back. We lived there for two years due to my wife’s work. Alcohol, particularly beer, including when exercising regardless of temperature seemed to be mandatory. Although...

Swimming with aortic aneurysm / heart issues - Safe water temperature?

Well I swam this afternoon. The temperature gauge show 25C water, 20C air. Wimped out, on went the wetsuit vest. Oh well, I’m a born and bred Queenslander. No need to inflict the discomfort of cold water on oneself if not required.

Swimming with aortic aneurysm / heart issues - Safe water temperature?

Hi gang, I really enjoy stationary (tethered) swimming in our home pool. However as winter approaches even in our relatively warm climate the water becomes cold. Pool Heating is too costly for us. I prefer not to wear a wetsuit until the water gets below around 20 - 22C. Even then I only...

Aortic aneurysm (watchful waiting) weight / resistance training

8.2 cm, wow. Fantastic to hear you’re doing well and able to perform heavy work.

    It Just Got Real

I’m 59 and in the watchful waiting mode for a 4.8 cm root TAA. Go for my annual echo etc next month. One never knows if it will be time or not each checkup. I’ve done quite a lot of research on mechanical vs tissue value for a few years now. When the time comes I’ve decided on the Edward...

Aortic aneurysm (watchful waiting) weight / resistance training

Popularised by Mike Mentzer early on. However for anerysm resistance training obviously minus the forced reps, negatives etc to total failure. Used that approach also many years ago, quite enjoyed it. Did exactly as per your pecs example. For lats it was straight arm pulldowns / nautalus...

Aortic aneurysm (watchful waiting) weight / resistance training

EDIT has worked very well for me. To be on the safe side simple select ALL then copy text so if anything goes wrong during edit (unlikely) you just paste the text back again.

Aortic aneurysm (watchful waiting) weight / resistance training

Thanks @leadville, wonderful info thanks. Most of what you posted is what my research suggests is a safer approach to weight training for those with aneurysms until time for surgery. Sorry I meant to specify that it’s your pre-surgery workout routine I was interested in. Although you said it...

    Staying the Course -- 04/08/2019

I don’t use scales but judge by the waist size of my trousers and belt hole. When I go down a belt notch or trouser size that signals progress:). As part of my exercise routine I try to do “tethered” swimming at least three times weekly in our 9m x 4.5m home pool with today being a swim day...

Aortic aneurysm (watchful waiting) weight / resistance training

@leadville would you kindly be able to expand on your workout routine or direct me to a suitable post if you’ve already covered this in the past? It drives me insane my cardiologist’s view of lifting no more than 10 - 15 kg. If one stops lifting anything much strength deteriorates to the point...

    Staying the Course -- 04/08/2019

I’m thin by nature but somewhat fat from eating too much if that makes sense. When I lose more fat I start to look scrawny. Being very tall accentuates it also. Hence why I need to do some form of resistance training when losing fat. A challenge though with the 4.8 cm root aneurysm.

Aortic aneurysm (watchful waiting) weight / resistance training

Hello and again being a new member thanks to all those here who have contributed to this incredible resource of information. Like most with an aortic aneurysm who potentially can spend years of watchful waiting until meeting the criteria for surgery the conflicting information on exercise and...

    Edwards Resilia Inspiris Aortic Valve

Very interested in this myself being in Australia. The good news is I see that this valve was added to the list of products able to be claimed through private health funds just last month so it’s obvioisly been approved for use in Australia...
