Wish I could as I’m eating too many of them and getting fatter.

Hi Bob / Gang, The combination of a simple circuit of 5 minutes on the exercise bike then a set of 20 goblet squats (no rest in between) repeated for 20 - 30 minutes is working well. It has taken away the boredom of doing a non-stop 30 minute session on the stationary bike but still provides a...

Hi gang, Which planks are you referring to, front or side? Importantly how long are you holding the position for? Any exercise where one holds a stationary position under load is considered isometric. The longer the position is held the greater the rise in blood pressure. Stuart McGill a...

Yes interesting thanks. I must look into this more. There’s breathing techniques which I’m familiar with then there’s the issue of mechanical vs metabolism loading. Too much mechanical loading, ie heavy weights, regardless of breathing technique is often touted as being risky for those with...

I have used Superslow quite some time ago but due to the aneurysm I avoid it now. Over time I’ve seen a number of aortic surgeons / cardiologists advise against using Superslow as due to it’s very slow cadence it becomes more isometric in nature, Similar concern applies to those with...

Tell your kids you want a wheelchair as well as a set of resistance bands.

LOL. There’s plenty of ways to make the exercise more challenging without using any weights at all the most obvious being to increase reps. Another is 1 and 1/2 reps. On way back up pause briefly then back down then full rep. Repeat until wheelchair required to get off bench 🙂.

Sounds like a good strategy Bob. I get quite bored on my exercise bike so have started alternating 5 sets of 5 mins of cycling with 20 reps of light goblet squats to bench (no rest in between) which is considered the best squatting exercise for back / joint / knee health and maintaining...

P.E.A.R.S. now being performed in Brisbane, Australia (Prince Charles Hospital)

Yes. I’ve seen a number of Dr Jalali’s patient testimonials describe him as a brilliant surgeon and a humble, kind and gentle man. However amongst his peers as was the case at this conference his ego seemed well intact and he was not backward in expressing his views including disagreeing with...

P.E.A.R.S. now being performed in Brisbane, Australia (Prince Charles Hospital)

Note that the thrust of the presentation was aimed at those with Marfan and other genetic disorders where often there’s an aneurysm but the valve is ok. However it also included BAV. I didn’t get a picture of the slide that showed the global data for aneurysm / valve surgery. I think only...

    Tissue Regrets??

Then there’s new silent trileaflet mechanical valves in the works that don’t require anti-coagulants, just aspirin needed like tissue valves from what I understand. An example is found here: https://www.novostia.com/ Discussed along with other topics here...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

Hopefully this hasn’t been posted before. An excellent discussion between aortic valve surgeons. Also includes discussion on a new mechanical TAV which doesn’t require anti-coagulant treatment. I didn’t realise that warfarin is needed because of the open / close nature of the mechanical valve...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

Hey @vitdoc I was thinking of you yesterday. I attended a conference on Marfan and aneurysm / aortopathy yesterday. It included both medical specialists / surgeons and those laypeople with aneurysm and Marfan syndrome. Given the lense issue associated with these genetic disorders one of the...

P.E.A.R.S. now being performed in Brisbane, Australia (Prince Charles Hospital)

I attended an amazing full day Marfan / Genetic Disorders and Aortopathy Conference yesterday in Brisbane (Prince Charles Hospital) with an audience of medical professionals and those with Aneurysm and Genertic Aorta disorders including BAV. Some of the speakers are highly regarded in Australia...

Does an active lifestyle decrease the longevity of a bovine aortic valve?

Talk about coincidence. Literally just finished reading that.. That publication was back in 2013 so still a little dated. There’s been so many recent advances in this area but the trouble is the long term data isn’t there yet to validate the expectations. Unfortunately for me around age 60...

Does an active lifestyle decrease the longevity of a bovine aortic valve?

Interesting video thanks. That was around 10 years ago. I wonder what Dr Schaff’s views would be now a decade later? During recent research I came across a number of question and answer sessions etc with some prominent surgeons who said that if they were around 60 now and needed a valve they...
