Medication after Aortic Valve Replacement are you taking?

I had AVR (Magna Ease bovine tissue) last November. For three months post op, I was on Warfarin, 2.5mg Bisoprolol, 75mg Aspirin and 40mg Atorvastatin daily. 10 months on and now taking 75mg Aspirin and 10mg Atorvastatin.

    Elevated Liver enzymes post op

My liver enzymes are back to normal now. I stopped Atorvastatin 3 months ago. Hard to tell if the statin was the cause or whether it was just a case of them returning to normal post op but they were high considering I was 6 months post op when I had the high results. My ALT was 147 U/L, ALP was...

    Tachycardia

I was at a heart rate of around 100 bpm for the first week post AVR. At some stage during the week I started Bisoprolol 5 mg per day and after a couple of weeks my heart rate was back to normal. They reduced the dose to 2.5mg after 6 weeks as I was getting periods of light-headedness when I'd...

    My AVR OHS Experience

Just on coming off Metoprolol, probably not advisable to be coming off it or any other medication unsupervised? I was on Bisoprolol for about three months post op (9 months ago) but I waited until my cardiologist ok'd me coming off it. My BP was perfect and no arrhythmia plus my heart rate was...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

You are welcome 😊. One other comment that I have is that the warfarin wasn't as big a deal as I'd feared it would be beforehand. I was on warfarin for 3 months post op and getting it dialled in was a PITA in the first couple of weeks after release but it was straightforward enough after that.

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

In fairness, that's fine from your point of view. You chose mechanical and I"m sure you made the choice knowing all of the pros and cons based on your lifestyle etc. I chose tissue at 52 and I'd make the same choice again, knowing as I did, that I'd require further intervention down the line...

Four and a half weeks after SAVR

Yeah, I met my surgeon after 6 weeks, last December. He advised me strongly not to cycle for 12 weeks. He mentioned the vibrations coming through the handlebars. I took his advice anyway, even though I was going stir crazy walking. Hopped back on the bike after 3 months.

17 years with my Edwards bovine

What age were you when you received it? Do you have any indication of how it's behaving at this point? Great to see such longevity from a tissue valve (as a recent recipient of one myself).

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

Thats good. It'll probably continue to rise after you get discharged so be sure to get an INR test within a day or two of discharge and another a few days later just to see what the trend is. The trend is important at this early stage.

    One Year

I'm about 7 months post AVR and I haven't had any pains for months really. I can lift stuff and do pretty much anything without any chest pain. No pain from coughing or getting up from couch. If I have a huge, huge sneeze I can sometimes get a small bit of discomfort but thats about it.

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

Be careful when you get discharged about your warfarin dose/INR. My INR hovered around 1.1 or 1.2 for a few days while waiting to be discharged and they crept up the dose. When I finally came within range I was discharged. I got my INR tested 2 days after discharge and was in the middle of the...

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

Thought that myself. I was in ICU for 24 hrs and I don't remember much about that really. After that, I was in step down but I wasn't sitting in a chair the same day or even the following day post op. Think it might have been the third day post op in my case. Soon after that, the dreaded chest...

    Heart Cath

I had one done about 9 months ago, prior to my AVR, and it was through my wrist. I did have it done on two occasions previously maybe 25 to 30 years ago and they were through my groin.

    Resting Heart Rate

I had something similar too about 2 months ago. My ALT was about 3x, my ALP was about 4x and GGT about 3x of the upper range limit. Not sure what caused it but I stopped Atorvastatin as advised and after about 2 weeks, my ALT was back inside range and the others barely above the upper limit. I...
