    cuts on warfarin

I don't see a hard 5 days and back to work for those infected. It is conditional on being asymptomatic. If you have symptoms, all bets are off.

    cuts on warfarin

CDC Guidelines: People with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), follow that by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter. The change is motivated by...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

America is great in a lot of things just don't get laid off and don't get sick.

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS. Average ACA premium is $575/month, subsidies kick in with income of at least 100% of Federal poverty level or 140% for states that expanded Medicare. I pay less than $150/month for my company based insurance. We would go a long way with understanding and empathy. Be...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

It will surprise you that I am in NYC and I work in healthcare. There is no wait only because Americans CANNOT afford healthcare. If you doubt me, go to the emergency room of your local hospital and see the wait there. Emergency care has to be provided without consideration of ability to pay...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

I don't know what system is better but I know this pandemic has shown Americans what is seen elsewhere...wait. Americans lining up to be tested. Americans waiting for test results. Americans fighting for testing materials. Folks unattended in hospitals, overwhelmed doctors and nurses. If...

    Coumadin clinic

I also have 5mg pills I break them up and I don't care how even the halfs are. I take 7.5mg and 5mg. I have a testing company that reports and I lie everytime. I basically self manage. Last week I tested at 4.5. I reported 3.5 and skipped a dose. Nurse called me a day later and said doc...

    It makes a clicking sound

Yeah saying mechanicals valves get quiet is a stretch. You learn not to hear it when your mind is busy with other things but when it is quiet and it's you and your valve...you hear it. It's worse when you are under stress and have irregular beats...

    Tissue Valve

Let's be absolutely clear. We value our doctors advice (and when we doubt them, we get another doctor to confirm, a second opinion). What we have in this forum is "lived in" experience. While we agree that people are different, they do have some valuable nuggets to share. We have tissue valvers...

Which tea won't affect my INR?

Just came across this old thread. We all focus on vitamin K and warfarin and we forget that clotting is affected by other things as well. The main ingredient in Aspirin is also found in ginger. They do affect platelet aggregation and therefore will affect clotting time. Anything in...

    Valve calcification

Yes Stenosis is reduced opening because the cusps or chordae are thickened or calcified. So the atrium works harder to push blood across. You have higher velocities across the valves. Regurgitation is back flow of blood and it is related to cusps not closing completely.

    New to this group

Let your doctor be a guide but it's your health. If your INR drops to 1.4 take 1.5 of your regular dose and continue with your normal dosage. Don't wait for the doctor response. An INR of 3 is still safe so think how far off you are. INR below 1.4 and above 3.5 need attention, anything else...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

Talk to your surgeon, get a second opinion. The best way would be turning the question to your doctor. "If you were in my position, knowing what you know and have seen what, what would you do?" If you don't trust the opinion of the dude who is going to stop your heart, slice it open, sew it...

New Here - Are Beta Blockers necessary?

Messing with anything close to the heart can easily trigger arrhythmia. Beta blockers are very good at keeping the heart rate lower. Also an aneurysm means you have high pressure in your vessels. You do not want to enlarge anything else. As for getting your heart rate up, you work from you...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I remember being wheeled right outside the theater and we did again a pre‐op check...name date of birth, what surgery blah, blah, blah... Then they wheeled me into the theater and other than the big light there was nothing that I could see. The anesthesia folks who I had met the night before...

Let's set some goals! A throwdown!

Well I just got back from my PCP. June 2020 I clocked Total Chol of 270mg/dL with LDL at 172mg/dL. After 5 years of some huge numbers, the doctor put me on 20mg Atorvastatin. I added Nicotinic Acid, Fiber, Red Yeast Rice and plenty of walking. Total Chol. 115mg/dL LDL 41mg/dL My goal is to...
