Back on the merry-go-round, or just caffeine?

Did they check your heart valves? If the Mitral valve is not opening that causes the left side of the heart to remodel and that causes arrhythmia and since blood is backed up that causes pulmonary edema. The left side has blood from the lungs so the backup adds fluid to the lungs and shortness...

    Heart Rate / Pacemaker

There is the possibility of nerve damage alluded to in a post earlier but there is also reverse remodeling of the heart. With a bad valve, the heart compensated, becoming muscular and faster. Because it was gradual, you never noticed these changes. After surgery, your heart is more efficent...

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

Warfarin will be around for a while. What I don't understand is why testing supplies prices are still steep. Can you imagine glucose testing for diabetics at these prices? There are few companies making these devices and all these niche medical supplies/testing support industries.

Advancement and the future of Mechanical Valves/ Blood Thinners, ETC

Boston Scientific Corp recalled LOTUS Edge Aortic Valve System due to "complexities" related to the product delivery system.

Advancement and the future of Mechanical Valves/ Blood Thinners, ETC

I was recently told many people in the cardio...sorry but is this Trumpism? Bioprosthetics have degradation and calcification issues. Mechanicals have fluid dynamics issues. One necessitates replacement, the other has an increased risk of blood clots and requires anti-coagulation. To be...

    Smart Watch etc. Heart Arrythmias

Wait...your heart rate was 135 for 2 days and you did not notice? I have a smart watch Galaxy Watch and for sure it will not record atrial fibrillation. I think its algorithms are for sinus rhythm and therefore will pick up a fast heart rate when you exercise and real low. I have recorded a...

    Drinking alcohol on warfarin

I don't want to pile on Warfarin, it could be aging for all I know but the lack of sleep, sweating in bed after a good drink does not make up for the happy hours. I have been forced into moderation by terrible after effects and the hangovers the morning after. If you can still do it, knock back...

Question on Brown Urine and Taking Today's Warfarin Dose

Seriously? How many in the US get sick and look at their account and have to risk rent/eviction or medical care or food or meds? Is that waiting too and sometimes in vain because the bills will not pause. Every time I go to the doctor and they ask me for my insurance information, i feel guilty.

    Lifting weights

You have to consider "work" done. Lifting 250lbs in 5 seconds, may be the work equivalent to lifting 5lbs slowly in 10 minutes. One may kill you right there and then, the other may kill you at the 9th minute or you may survive both. These are things that there is no scientific cut offs. Its...

    my time has come

20 year tissue valve...i hope it lasts that long. Afib may pop up occasionally but it is a pretty common experience. After my surgery, with anxiety and all that I would run to the doctor. Now I can ignore it until the heart wisens up and gets back into rhythm.

    Another INR question

When you go to the dentist it is one huge dose at one time. It is not over a week as a most antibiotic treatments. So you don't need to adjust your dosage. On the other hand of week long antibiotic treatment, i would ignore dose changes and test mid week and let that INR reading be my guide to...

    August 16 - 7 year anniversary

It is now 7 years since I had my mitral valve replaced with a St Jude mechanical valve. Backstory: i contracted Rheumatic fever around 8 years old that damaged my valve and developed stenosis. For a long time I was on intramuscular Penicillin prophylaxis. At 39, the valve opening had narrowed...

Failure of Onx valve and problems with lowering INR

First, people have thrombosis with an INR of 1.0 and 1.0 to 1.5 is considered Normal. Second, a mechanical valve is a foreign object and its blood dynamics will never be insignificant compared to bio-prosthetic or natural valves. Third, any other complication such as afib will make you...

    August 2017 - 4 year Anniversary

A little late I know but I was busy celebrating. This forum has been very educational to me and I follow up on many stories but I am relatively quiet because I get easily annoyed with some things. Why would someone avoid a mechanical valve because of noise/coumadin and risk a second surgery...

Head-to-head study: TAVR Edwards vs Medtronic

The minimally invasive aortic heart valve replacement system from Edwards Lifesciences Corp performed better than a rival product sold by Medtronic Inc in the first head-to-head study of the two, according to data from a small German trial presented at a major heart meeting on Sunday. The...
