New member: 56 yo facing unexpected AVR before the end of the year

Thanks for sharing! I totally get that!! I’m used to running so my walks around my house feeling like a workout are quite humbling. 😆 I am waiting patiently to get back to normal.

Mechanical Valvers! Tell me about your travel experiences

Not the same issue, but I had severe regurgitation with no other heart issues due to bicuspid valve. So congenital. We were able to get the regurgitation to moderate and my surgeon said I could wait if I wanted to, but I was already symptomatic. I couldn’t run anymore or do lots of activity...

I’m 12 days out but am taking it much slower. I still get very tired. My resting heart rate has been low 70’s. I just started home Pt today so slowly getting back my endurance is the goal. I’m glad he’s feeling so good, but yes, try and remind him to be patient. It’s just for a short time...

Finaly its going to happen friday the 23st

Wishing you continued progress in your recovery. If you feel you need to call the doctor, please do. I’d rather them say it’s nothing than it be something. Recovery is tough. I had my surgery 12/22, replacement with mechanical valve. Sometimes I get anxious and I just take my BP, check my...

Mechanical Ticking - When is it louder and (side) sleeping

I just had surgery, I’m 48 with a st. Jude. I hear it sometimes. Granted I’m still sleeping upright, but it really isn’t it all what I thought it would be from what People had said. It’s really not bothersome, just there. It’s more comforting than bothersome. Before surgery I had a heck of...

I’ll add your own pillow, some favorite snacks bc unfortunately food is typically not the best and you might not even have an appetite, I wore my slippers jome Bc my feet were still swollen. Also, the best thing I had was a light shawl to put over My gown. It was perfect for walks.

How has surgery had an impact on family members

No this is very rare. I’ve never had issues before but apparently it was due to GERD that I have. I don’t think they’re quite sure either why it happened, but they were prepared for it. They auctioned my lungs and bronchioles right away. The anesthesiologists said they had never seen It Like...

I just had surgery 12/22/22. It was supposed to be 12/19. I went back and all ready to go said bye to my 5 year old (who Wouldn’t be able To come back) and my husband waited. I had a horrible complication with anesthesia and bile was everywhere. I aspirated, threw up. The surgeon aborted...

Truth about nutrition drinks. I had no appetite and a lot of nausea and the food was awful on top of all of that. I drank the shakes, at least tried to get one down for a whole day, and that did help.

Oh my gosh this is awful. I’m so sorry to hear this. I had fantastic icu nurses but the floor nurses were very disappointing (I started doing more on my own and that just ended up causing me More pain). I did have an amazing surgical team who saw me at least 2 times a day. I’m sure he will...
