Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

It appears that the biggest concern about selecting a tissue valve is the possibility of a second surgery. I have had both open heart valve replacement and open rotator cuff surgery and I can tell you that the rotator cuff surgery was much much worse in terms of pain and recovery. Most of what...

    Covid Vaccines

You say "poorly educated." I call it "unindoctrinated". Bottom line is this. You (left wing liberals) hate my guts and wish I were dead. We (conservatives) hate your guts and wish you were dead. So why don't we just get this civil war underway and settle this once and for all. At this point I'm...

    Aortic Valve Choices

They need to change the name this website to "Mechanicalvalvereplacement.org. Because there is nothing unbiased about this site at all.

    St Jude Trifecta failure

It is a known fact that when someone's position is so weak they usually resort to name calling. Pellicle inferred that I was stupid and made a crude reference to my religious beliefs and then called you an old *******. Only a coward calls someone a name and then hides behind the anonymity of the...

    St Jude Trifecta failure

Yes. My cardio (who happens to be the head of the department) said he had 2 mechanical valves come back this year and both died. He's not recommending them any more unless absolutely necessary. As far as "studies" go it's all about money. If they hold stock in mechanical valves then mechanical...

    St Jude Trifecta failure

Please don't take anything you read here seriously about the longevity of tissue valves. I was only 49 when I received my Edwards valve and 16 years later it's still not showing any signs of deterioration. My cardio feels I could get 30 years out of it. Mechanical valves fail too. The reason you...

    Whats the point.....................

I had AVR and Open rotator cuff surgery and I can tell you that the rotator cuff surgery was far worse in terms of pain and recovery. As far as lifting weights go I am currently the Pa. State record holder in the bench press for my age and weight class.

    Tissue vs Mechanical

Before making a selection consider this. Take a look at the Anti-Coagulation forum. Nearly 4000 posts. Most of which deal with problems and concerns. Do you really want to be reminded every day of your life that you have a mechanical valve and all the problems that go with it? Now with the new...

    Guinness world record

Just found this:The longest survivor of a porcine aortic valve replacement is Lewis Jackson (L.J) Dean, (US), who received a porcine aortic (pig's) valve replacement which functioned without any repairs for 30 years 197 days. The operation took place at Scott & White Hospital, Texas, US, under...

    Exercise recommendations after bovine AVR

Looked into the Arnold thing a little deeper. In 97 he had the ross procedure and had his pulmonary valve placed in the aortic position. It failed and 2 hours later he was back in surgery. I doubt he was doing any heavy weight lifting 2 hours after surgery. The procedure failed because the...

    Exercise recommendations after bovine AVR

Arnold had his valve replaced in 1997 and in 2018. That's 21 years apart. I don't see how you can attribute that to heavy weight lifting. There are many people here on this site that never lifted weights and had their valves give out long before 21 years. I just don't understand what the danger...

    Exercise recommendations after bovine AVR

Can anyone cite a specific case where lifting weights directly caused a valve to "blow out." I can't find one example. I suspect the the "don't lift heavy weights camp" are just covering their behinds in the event of a medical malpractice lawsuit. Incidentally I have been powerlifting...
