    Unexplained pain and numbness

PS - I also had tingling and numbness in fingers of the left hand when the pain in shoulder was at its worst. Never had warfarin.

    Unexplained pain and numbness

Hi @krosson62 I had a few years very bad left shoulder pain. Had steroid injections in shoulder but they didn't help one bit. Physio gave me exercises etc but they didn't help one bit either, in fact they made it worse. Eventually I had an MRI of my sternum which showed I had an effusion at my...

Difference between ohs and minimally invasive avr

My surgeon had me down for minimally invasive AVR but went on to do a full sternotomy as she couldn't gain access to my aortic valve with minimally invasive. Minimally invasive is a smaller incision down the sternum, and the other is longer incision down the sternum. Both are OHS.

NOT Feeling well 7 months post operation

Hi @extraordinary ! I'm still here. It turned out with me that the replacement valve I got is too small for my body size which explains some of the not getting back to my pre-surgery level of fitness. I also had some extra cardiac fitness training one-to-one which threw up that pain I had been...

How did you discover your valve issue?

I was 25, I had a chest infection and went to a GP - GP listened to my chest and said "you have a heart murmur" but in such a voice that he thought I already knew about it. I didn't. I was referred to a cardiologist who guessed it was bicuspid aortic valve from the sound, had echocardiogram...

    Covid 19 vaccine recommendations

Thankfully my Killer T cells are brill as my vitamin D levels are optimal at 60ng/mL (150 nmol/L). It's vitamin D that 'feeds', so to speak, T cells and therefore increases innate immunity ! So with that and the 3 Pfizers I should be good to go :)

    Covid 19 vaccine recommendations

I got my booster vaccine today - I was given Pfizer. This makes it the third Pfizer for me. I was rather hoping for a Moderna but no such luck as given no choice as it's the NHS and we get what they have on the day. I wonder if we'll all have to have another dose of vaccine in another six...

Was it obvious when you strained your sternum?

I think it must be pretty difficult to interfere with the healing process as the sternum is very firmly secured after surgery. Just six days post surgery I tripped on a large heavy box and landed with my sternum hitting the edge of the box hard. It was very painful and I was very winded so...

    Royal Paworth

Oh how awful Paul - three times cancelled :( That really isn't on. I don't know if you can make a complaint ? It surely can't hurt after they have messed you around so many times. Some people on here, messed around less than you have been, get sent to a private hospital but still under the same...

    Going forward?????

Hi Gary - just contact Ms Yadav's secretary as the card is quite important as it will give the model number and serial number of your valve, all valves have a unique serial number for reasons of traceability. If the secretary doesn't have the card she should be able to find the model and serial...

    Going forward?????

Hi Gary - just contact the cardiac surgeon's secretary and ask about the card. It's often just a slip of paper from the hospital - you might have that in your mountain of paperwork - after which you register the valve and get a proper card from the valve manufacturer. Good luck !

    Going forward?????

It was in June 2017 that the first Inspiris Resilia valves were implanted in the UK at King's College Hospital and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust: First procedures using Edward Lifesciences’ Inspiris Resilia aortic valve take place | Cardiovascular News

    Going forward?????

Hi Gary - you should have been given a little card when you were discharged from hospital which details the date you were given the valve, the name of the surgeon, what type of valve, the model number and serial number of the valve and the size. If the valve was made by Edwards Lifesciences you...

    Going forward?????

Hi Michael - you've got the same type of valve as me....though I don't know if I had ThermaFix whatever that is. 10 years is what I was told was average with the Carpentier-Edwards PERIMOUNT Magna Ease. But yes, it was Gazza I was asking what make of valve they got given because if it was the...

    Going forward?????

What make of bovine valve did you get ? Four years ago people were often getting the Edwards Inspiris Resilia valve in the UK which is supposed to have a longer life than the average 10 years of the previous generation of bovine valves such as the Edwards Magna Ease. Have a look on the little...

    I can't get no sleep

I couldn't sleep at all well in the beginning weeks after surgery, a combination of not beng able to sleep in a sitting/reclining position, as I couldn't lie down, and also the pain. Since I live in the UK I would log onto the forum where the Americans and Australians were all awake...it was...

Staying the Course: It's July, the Heat Is On!

Really sorry to read that Ellie dog passed away Superbob. When an animal family member goes it is just as heartbreaking as when a human family member goes. I can still feel grief for cat familiy members I had years ago, even as a child over 60 years ago.

    Breathing Tube Fear

I was also woken up after the breathing tube had been removed....as far as I know. They give one medications which give amnesia so could have been that, either way I don't remeber the breathing tube at all, the only thing I remember is at some point it being very dark and someone talking loudly...
