Blood sugar levels , stress hormones , over exercise; Heads Up

I tested like you do ! And I do eat occasional salads....your sockeye salmon one sounds right up my street. I wil also eat a goat's cheese with bacon lardons salad - minus the bread which others have with that ! I was going to recommend Jenny Ruhl's Blood Sugar 101 too - you beat me to it ...

Blood sugar levels , stress hormones , over exercise; Heads Up

My A1c is 5.2. Hypoglycaemia is usually defined as under 3.9. If you feel uncomfortable with a blood glucose level of 7 that will surely be because you are not used to that level and that you must be used to being on higher blood glucose levels - which means diabetes. You haven’t told us what...

Blood sugar levels , stress hormones , over exercise; Heads Up

Hi @d333gs - I was diagnosed with diabetes fifteen years ago, I got it into complete remission about four years ago and the diagnosis has been removed from my medical record. I note you say about your blood glucose levels: Those levels are high. What do you eat that gives you levels of 12 and...

Post Surgery long-term followup with cardiologist

It's all digital TV here too Pellicle, and we don't have one of those boxes either. When I watch a DVD it's on a computer with DVD drive. TV generally seemed to go downhill with the proliferation of channels. When I had AVR the nursing staff made a note of the fact that I never turned on the TV...

Post Surgery long-term followup with cardiologist

We haven't got a TV but some years ago a friend alerted me to how good the TV series 'House' was. I bought the DVD set of the first season and was hooked - I've watched all eight seasons of it ! The later ones got rather off track away from Dr House's diagnostic detective work but still they...

    VitD and bio AVR

Hi RAS - 50 mcg is 2,000 IU - perhaps you should take a higher dose ? I take 2,500 IU per day but I know of many people who take upwards of 5,000 IU per day. I don't take more than 2,500 IU per day because I get my vitamin D levels tested every six months by my GP and my levels are in the...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

That is really interesting that a neurologist you saw said they see this all the time with people who've been on the heart lung machine ! I once found a link to an article about neurological complications of heart surgery where it mentions "complications from bypass surgery can include vision...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

I've never had warfarin nor aspirin, but my migraine auras without headache started the day after open heart surgery just over 8 years ago and they continue. The doctor on the cardiac ward said they're often happen after heart surgery. I reckon it's to do with the heart lung machine but it...

Regular checkups after heart valve replacement?

Hi - I would think that it's probably a very good idea to get a referral to a cardiologist for a check up on the valve, yes.

    Vision problems 12 months on

Hi @tezza - I've had vision problems since my AVR eight years ago now. Migraine auras without headache and also double vision. (you'll find several threads about visual problems on the forum, here's just two of them: Vertigo, Visual Disturbances and 'wobbly' feeling and Migraine aura anyone? Or...

Hi @lukepayne.73 ! I see you are going to have AVR in the future, do you know if it's soon or a long way off ?

How long does it take the heart to adjust to a new bovine aortic valve?

Bonjour @d333gs - you are so lucky to be having this surgery in France as you will get those 4 weeks in a rehab ! No other country, as far as I know, other than perhaps Germany, gives rehab to patients after surgery. I have a friend who moved to France, had knee surgery and then got a couple...

    Chest/sternal pain

I went back to weight lifting post surgery, even though I still had sternum pain, under guidance of cardiac rehab cardiac nurse who did weight lifting (I used to do quite heavy weight lifting for a woman). A few years later I was getting extremely bad shoulder pain in left shoulder and...

New Here - Are Beta Blockers necessary?

I was given beta blockers post surgery. At three weeks the dosage was halved and then stopped completely at six weeks. @Snwbrd031 - I see you're not asking about post surgery beta blockers - if you're concerned about being prescribed beta blockers now can you get a second opiniom ? Or have you...

Forum member Debs (maisiejane) has died

Hi @pellicle - yes I know it would have been a bacteria, that's why I put a question mark after virus - it's because Debs' husband said it was a virus which I knew could not be, but I was quoting him. On the phone later he mentioned the word streptococcus which is a bacteria.

Forum member Debs (maisiejane) has died

I just got the very sad news in a Christmas card from her husband and a phone call from him, that forum member Debs, username maisiejane, died at the end of June. She was feeling very unwell, a virus (?) got on her replacement valve but that was missed as they didn’t do an echo, they just did...
