Prepping the house for after surgery

Hi @dornole Re sleeping, I chose to sleep on my sofa propped up with pillows to get the right angle for sleeping more or less upright during the first few weeks. I removed pillows as time went on and I felt more comfortable for lying down until I could sleep in my preferred side position (and...

Surgery 4 to 6 weeks away!!

Hi @SwansCity1912 - I'm sure the time will pass quickly until surgery and with things to do to prepare for recovery once it's done and you're back home ! I too had my AVR done via private medical insurance which I get via my DH's work....it's far easier to see consultants with it and get tests...

    Different strokes...

That is such an interesting paper ! Wow ! Thank you ! Some answers for both of us 😃 ? As you know I have very high gradients across my bioprosthetic valve, peak gradient 51 mmHg and mean gradient 30 mmHg and a very small valve area 0.74 cm sq. I’ve been diagnosed with patient prosthesis...

    Emergency Information on phone

I just looked on my iphone and have seen that Emergency section - good idea. I also have a Medipal card, same material and size as a bank card with an emergency contact number and details of medical conditions, blood group, GP practice and NHS number, the card comes with a fob which is on my key...

    Navigating Recovery

I sat in the bath and had a shallow bath. The bath had a handrail which helped steady myself getting up and out of the bath no problem.

    Vision Issues and Coumadin

I wish my floaters would clear vitdoc - when my right eye’s vitreous detached in 2021 I got a large Weiss Ring floater, and then when the left eye’s vitreous detached last summer I got one in that eye too ! I’m glad I don’t have any more eyes LOL

    Vision Issues and Coumadin

Hi @MaryLM - I'm not on Coumadin but I've had Posterior vitreous Detachment, I've had in both eyes: flashes of light in my posterior vision. I've had it thoroughly investigated and Posterior Vitreous Detachment is apparently a normal occurrence in people above the age of 60...though why most...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

Thank you for posting this @workmonkey I do hope some research is done on this as there are a number of forum members get these migraine auras following heart surgery. Keep well !

    Different strokes...

That's interesting because whenever I get an episode of double vision I immediately cover one eye and that stabilizes me or else I feel completely dizzy and unstable. My double vision is related to the migraine auras which I developed immediately post surgery.

    Moving to UK from India

I got a letter from my cardiac surgeon which says I should have antibiotic cover before any invasive dental work - the letter was for my GP so it's on my medical notes at the GP surgery, and I have an antibiotic prescription on my repeat medications list which I can request online any time I...

    Moving to UK from India

I think it might be important for you to register with a GP when you get to the UK. Read this about General Practitioners from an NHS website on how to access NHS services.... if you're planning to live and work in England, you need to register with a GP practice...

    Two failed TOE/TEE

When I had a TOE at the Royal Brompton, London, it was done under general anaesthetic. I hadn't asked for it to be done under general anaesthetic but was quite happy that way and I should think they're less likely to fail that way. It meant I was essentially a day patient though. Hope the next...
