    TAVR

Congratulations on the successful TAVR! It truly is an amazing procedure. I’m 6 weeks post AVR with open heart and it’s amazing to think about how minimally invasive TAVR is, as I think about all one goes through with open heart. Quick question for anyone who knows - how is the TAVR valve...

    Resting HR post-AVR surgery

Great to hear from you, SSJ4! Glad to hear your surgery went well and that you're recovering well too. Best!

    Resting HR post-AVR surgery

Thanks so much, Woodcutter. First off, wow....your resting was in the 40s before surgery!? Good to hear your experience and that you've largely returned to pre-surgery levels of fitness. I do expect it will be a long process of recovery and getting back to "normal". While I lack the patience...

    Resting HR post-AVR surgery

Hi all - I'm 49 and 5 weeks post AVR and aortic aneurysm replacement (Bentall procedure) surgery and recovering well. Prior to surgery, I was in strong cardiovascular shape, primarily as a recreational road cyclist. I rode 25 miles two days before surgery and had ridden over 100 miles in a MS...

    Traveling after surgery?

Agree with others that it may depend on your specific circumstances. That said, I’m currently 5 weeks post AVR (and aortic aneurysm repair) and I was able to travel out of town at week 4 for Thanksgiving to visit family. My wife drove and I was in the backseat (doing what backseat drivers do)...

    TIAs

I had planned AVR and aortic root replacement just over 3 weeks ago. My story is in the New Member Intros folder if you care to take a deeper dive. Specific to TIAs, we are fairly confident I suffered a TIA on the table, as I awoke from surgery with extreme left side of body weakness that...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I'm officially 1 week past my 10/25 Bentall procedure (aortic root replacement + bovine tissue AVR) at Vanderbilt Univ Medical Center. I read this full thread heading into my procedure, so I figure it's time I contribute with the things I was surprised by: That it was called a Bentall...

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

I told my wife I wanted to “walk the neighborhood” tonight. Let’s just say that was a bit aggressive. Made it to Nextdoor neighbor’s house for a very quick visit on the sidewalk. Haha

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

I can see how that would be true. It’s at very least hardest on my wife and kids as my caretakers. Still, there’s just something about being back in your own bed and walking around your territory!

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

I haven’t had my phone on until day 4 (yesterday). My wife shared the following update to social media. It wasn’t uneventful, but I’m grateful I’m on the path to recovery and very likely going home today on day 5. He’s doing well overall! Very grateful. Some temp issues last night but much...

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

I had the telehealth visit this morning with Dr. Shah, cardiac surgeon at Vanderbilt. The main topic of discussion was valve selection - you know, since we're 24 hours away from surgery :) . I started this journey thinking I'd want tissue....learned a lot on this site about how Coumadin can be...

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

Thanks! I see you're in Franklin....I'll see you out on the road, indeed. As for where I rode today, let's see if this strava link works. If not, it was from Brentwood (east), down Sunset, Sam Donald to Nolensville, Clovercroft to Burke Hollow Rd (love this road!), Wilson Pike back to...

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

Well, I'm less than 48 hours away from go-time at Vanderbilt University Medical Center - SAVR and aortic aneurysm repair on Wed around 1:30pm CT. I meet with Dr. Shah (surgeon) tomorrow morning for one last consult on valve selection. It's funny, he told me 2 months ago that I can make the...

You've been very helpful, Pellicle. Very knowledgeable, obviously, but also dedicated in your education of others. That's a great service and much appreciated!

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I just went out this beautiful afternoon and knocked out a 25 mile bike ride (road cycling is my favorite hobby these days). I figure….get a good one in, as it’s going to be a while….

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

What a super thoughtful note! First, the lightHEARTed….so, I messed up my username when registering. It should be HokieHaden. And yes, I grew up 5 min from the Virginia Tech campus in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Despite not actually earning a degree from VT, my blood is...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Just wanted to quickly add my sincere THANK YOU to all who have contributed to this particular thread. I've read the entire thing as I prepare mentally for my Oct 25 (5 days as I type this!) AVR and Aortic Root Replacement surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. This...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Oh goodness...I'm already this way with the emotions.....I may not be able to function after this surgery (SAVR and aorta repair in less than a week, Oct 25)
