    May I vent?

INR came back today (from yesterday morning's lab) at 2.2--the same as from my Coaguchek xs on Tues. My coumadin clinic actually agreed with me that I should increase to 70mg/wk. and retest in 2 weeks. I just do not feel comfortable checking less often than weekly--maybe 5-10 yrs down the road...

    May I vent?

    Sorry--2.5--3.5

    May I vent?

My ins pays fully for lab testing once a month--but not convenient and I want to test weekly. So I purchased my own Coagucheck XS (thru ebay) and check my inr weekly myself and then go to the lab once a month or so. My cardiologist is cool with this--coumadin clinic not so much. If I have a...

    Question? Opinons?

How important do you think it is to have a pretty consistant dose of Warfarin each day? I take 7.5mg some days and 10mg some days. I am a pretty "common sense" kind of thinker and it seems that there is a big difference between the 7.5mg and the 10mg and that there may be some swings in INR and...

As one who home tests, do you ever go the lab for testing?

Diana22, I sent you a PM regarding your request for info.

As one who home tests, do you ever go the lab for testing?

I purchased my own Coaguchek XS as my insurance wouldn't cover it. I test weekly with my own unit. Since my ins does cover lab testing (100%) I do a lab test every month or so. The lab test gets called into my Coumadin clinic (thru my cardiologist's office) and that keeps them happy. It's...

The one year Post-Op Blues, from my scar right down to my shoes!

This is the place to go when you want to share, vent, ask questions--whatever. You are almost surely going to find someone who is feeling or experiencing (or has) the same thing. This is a bump that you will get over.

    Warfarin Schedule

When I started on warfarin, it was suggested that I take it in the evening. That way if I need to make an adjustment in the dose, I can make it in that day's dose. Most INR checks are done during the day after morning medication is already taken.

2 weeks post-op: Question about valve clicking

Hey Pensacola! My husband and I used to live there--loved it. Did you have your surgery in Pensacola? I have a St Jude aortic valve (May 2010). I still hear my valve, but don't usually pay any attention to it. It certainly doesn't bother me. In fact, it's kind of comforting to hear my...

    Antibiotics and Warfarin

Just checked my INR--3.3 :) I tried to counterbalance the antibiotics with extra veggies--must be working. Will just have to continue to do this for another week. Yes, I do, finally feel better. I have stocked up on yogurt, too. Thanks, again. When I have a question or problem, this is the...

    Antibiotics and Warfarin

Thanks, again, for all the advice. If I have learned nothing else, I have learned that life on Warfarin is a constant learning experience--that anything that is put into the body may affect the INR in some way.

    Antibiotics and Warfarin

Thanks to all for the advice. I just checked my INR and it is 2.8 (range of 2.5-3.5). So far, so good. The 2.8 gives me some room to go up. Since I will be on the Bactrim for 10 days, I will probably check INR again early next week?? I think the injection I got was Rocephin.

    Antibiotics and Warfarin

I have an ear infection, infection of the eye and uti--went to the doctor yesterday. She gave me 2 injections--an antibiotic (don't remember the name--something beginning with an r) and kenalog. I have 10 days worth of Bactrim DS 800-160 and an eye drop Tobramycin/Dexamet (use for 48 hrs.). I...

12 week INR interval vs. 4 weeks in patients who are "stable" for at least 6 months.

Studies such as this one could very well be the basis for insurance companies denying home testing. Just curious? Is the definition of "stable inr"--within range at the same dosage for at least 6 months?

    INR and injections

My doc said he would do the colonoscopy without stopping coumadin, but if he found any polyps, etc, he would not remove them. So I would have to have a second colonoscopy(after stopping coumadin and bridging with lovenox). So far, I've opted not to have one.

Dr. prescription for INR Machine.. Now What??

My AVR was in May 2010. I have been trying to get my ins to pay for home testing since then. I contacted Roche directly and was told that their price for a Coaguchek XS is $2400 and $200 for 6 test strips. The online prices (thru ebay etc) are less than 1/3 that price. My ins co doesn't seem...
