    Endocarditis

I’ve been on antibiotics since Friday. They drew blood for the culture yesterday (Monday). They said since they knew I was on antibiotics they added something (ard?) that would block the antibiotics?? Anyone heard of this? Hope they know what they’re talking about. I get so tired of having to...

    Endocarditis

Just had my blood drawn for the blood culture. The lab tech said they knew I was on antibiotics so would add ard(?) to block the antibiotics. Anyway now it’s wait and see. I surely hope they know what they’re doing.

    Endocarditis

Just got a call back from pcp. The put the order in for the blood culture. But she said that since I’ve been on antibiotics since Friday it may not be totally accurate. I’m having it done this afternoon.

Ascending aortic aneurysm - questions and concerns

Sounds like you are a true walking miracle several times over. How can cardiologists miss an aneurysm that large? How many deaths have they caused that no one even knows about?

    Endocarditis

Thanks Duffey. We made monthly trips to Columbia for years but have slowed down the visits. We may have been on I70 at the same time.

    Endocarditis

I’ve been caught between my pcp and cardiologist. Pcp seems pretty sure it’s endocarditis without the blood culture. Cardiologist is not so sure. This is the 4th time since March I’ve been on antibiotics—3rd time since first of July. I had a serious case of road rash on my knee due to a fall on...

Ascending aortic aneurysm - questions and concerns

I was diagnosed with an aneurysm of my ascending aorta in 2010. It was 5.4 when that cardiologist found it. New cardiologist said old cardiologist obviously missed it because I had annual echoes. I haven’t seen THAT cardiologist since. I had my surgery where my New cardiologist practices. I have...

    Endocarditis

Wow! You live in Cape! I line in Sikeston. I was a patient of a cardiologist in cape until I had my annual echo in 2010. He walked into my exam room and said my ascending aorta was 5.4—but it had been normal the year before!?!?!? He ordered a ct scan to confirm and left my exam room after...

    Endocarditis

Our kids live in Columbia. I had my surgery at Boone. If I have to drive to Columbia for a blood culture, I will. I intend to talk to my pcp (probably her nurse) and demand the test. If they can’t do it in cape Girardeau she can give me the order and I will go to Columbia. Thank you for the info.

    Endocarditis

I agree with you 100%. I will pursue this. Why not know for sure? Can any lab do the blood culture?

    Endocarditis

When talking with my pcp’s nurse today I asked about a blood culture. I don’t know if she actually mentioned it to the doctor or not. When the nurse called back she told me the doctor was prescribing the 2 antibiotics. If I’m not 100%better by the end of the antibiotics I will demand a blood...

    Endocarditis

No I don’t have any symptoms. My cardiologist is 4 1/2 hours away. He’s not convinced it’s endocarditis. So my pcp is treating me with 10 days of Bactrim and a z pack at the same time. Watch out INR! If this doesn’t work I will insist on an appointment with my cardiologist.

    Endocarditis

My pcp thinks I may have endocarditis. Crp is 5.152. I had influenza A at the end of March (yes I had my flu shot). I had a 102 temp that they didn’t treat because it was the flu. By the time they diagnosed the flu it had developed into an upper respiratory infection. So I had this temp for just...

    Morning vs. evening anti-coagulation dose

I think the primary reason for taking warfarin in the evening is to be able to do an inr check during the day and adjust the warfarin dose if necessary.

    Bridging with lovenox

Just had a bronchoscopy which required bridging with lovenox--my first time. My range is 2.5-3.5. I have a St Jude aortic valve. This is how it went. No Coumadin for 5 days before procedure--11/26 thru 11/30. Lovenox started on 3rd day 11/28. Procedure on 12/1. Restart Coumadin 12/1. Lovenox...

accuracy, standards and INR meter design

I have had a Coagucheck XS for about 3 yrs. I purchased it myself on eBay and have been very happy with it. I test weekly and go to the lab every 6-8 wks or so to verify home readings. Yesterday Coaguchek XS was 2.9. Lab was 2.9. The two have always been within .2 of each other. I occasionally...

    Need dosing advice, please??

INR was 3.1 this morning. Hope it doesn't go too low due to half dose on Mon night. I'm still perplexed by my reaction to the stings. They didn't sting, burn or even itch. They just HURT really bad for about 24 hours. It might have been due to the location of the stings--ear and side of...
