    Greens

I have a question along this line. I love a lot of vitamin k foods. However I am not very consistent. Would it make sense to take a vitamin k pill at the end of a day when I didn’t eat any vitamin k foods?

After 13 years in the "waiting room", surgery date is set for June. Let me know if agree with my plans...

I had my first ohs at age 58—aortic root, aortic valve and ascending aorta replaced with a st Jude grafted valve. I had a short period of afib after surgery so they set my inr range to 2.5-3.5. I am now almost 70 and am very physically active. My husband and I cut our own firewood and work out...

    AVR and aneurysm repair tomorrow

So glad you’re doing well. I had similar surgery almost 11 years ago. Everyone in this group was extremely helpful with shared experiences and encouragement.

My pacemaker wires were pulled a few days after surgery.

    Supper time and warfarin ....

Along these same lines, I’ve wondered—-if I overdose on vitamin k foods one day, when will it show up in my inr? Will inr next day reflect the vitamin k or will it take a day or 2. If I have an “off” inr and I know what caused it (and that cause is no longer in place) then I don’t want to...

    Honest Answers

For approximately 25 years I had annual echoes due to a leaky aortic valve. In January 2010 I was told I had an aneurysm of my ascending aorta. It was already 5.4–large enough that I needed surgery. Yes—I have since learned that the doctor obviously missed the aneurysm in previous echoes. I...

    Wafarin and shaving?

Before I was discharged from the hospital after my surgery, I had to watch a video about warfarin, bleeding etc. the video was obviously meant to scare me because it sounded like you could bleed to death from a paper cut! I have been on warfarin 10 yrs and can honestly say I do not bleed any...

    Changing beta blockers

I have been on 10mg Bystolic for about 8 yrs now. I had previously taken verapamil and metoprolol. I took them primarily for my rapid pulse. The other meds helped but didn’t lower my pulse to where it should be. The Bystolic works great. I haven’t ever noticed any side effects. The only problem...

Why are you asked to sniff during an echo

I don’t think I’ve ever been asked to sniff and I have had echoes since the mod 1980’s (before color and when they were put on vcr cassettes). However I have one scheduled in November and will ask about it.

    Interactions

I have been on a lot of different antibiotics over the ten years that I’ve been on warfarin. Generally they have little effect on my inr. I really think that everyone’s body reacts differently. Get your doctor’s advice. Check online sites for interactions. Bottom line—you will need to see what...

INR management through a remote service

It is more than a little ridiculous that we have to jump through hoops to get life-saving medication. If you’ve been on warfarin any length of time, you probably know more about how your inr will react to foods or antibiotics than a Coumadin clinic does. Each of us might react similarly but not...

    Warfarin bruising

I’ve been on warfarin 10 years. I really don’t think I bruise more easily but when I bruise, the bruise lasts longer—often 3 weeks.

INR management through a remote service

I have had a st Jude aortic valve for 10 years. I absolutely love my cardiologist but my Coumadin clinic sucks. Initially they would only give my 5mg warfarin—-no other mg. I had to split pills and alternate dosage. My cardiologist finally got them to give me 5’s and 1’s. I do weekly testing...

I have had 2 valve replacements within the past 3 years I just want to know if someone is having the same problems as me

I had ohs 10 yrs ago and have a mechanical aortic valve. Three years ago I had to have the upper lobe of my right lung removed. I got a copy of the surgical report that showed my lung was stuck to my chest wall by scar tissue. The lung surgery was extremely painful for weeks after and I think a...

    Endocarditis—again

Thanks for all the comments. I WILL be using mouthwash twice daily before brushing. I have also gotten a waterpik. I will continue dentist visits every six months. AND I will go for blood cultures immediately if I start a fever.
