    Need dosing advice, please??

My CoaguChek XS has always been within .2 of the lab, but I'm not terribly concerned about the 4.4. I'm not sure if the rise was due to the venom or the cortisone or both. Do either of them have a lasting effect or are they already out of my system? A couple of the places still hurt. I think...

    Need dosing advice, please??

Thanks, ****. Yes, my range is 2.5-3.5. They didn't just sting--they hurt. Even now--over 24 hours later--a couple of places feel like a really bad bruise. I've been stung lots of times, but it has never felt like this. Halving the dose tonight sounds good. That was my first thought. But...

    Need dosing advice, please??

You won't believe this, but---. Yesterday I got into some hornets and they promptly swarmed me.:eek2: I got stung 10-12 times--neck and ears VERY painful--red and swollen. Fortunately I don't have any allergies to stings. I used cortisone cream (otc) and took a hydrocodeine pill due to the...

    CoaguChek® XS system

I have a Coaguchek XS. Love it. Did a lab comparison last week. They had exactly the same reading. Always .2 or less difference. Have had it for about 2 yrs. Being able to test myself gives me a sense of control and freedom to live a "normal" life. I purchased it myself so don't have to check in...

    Need advice on dosing change??

Just wanted to thank you again for the great advice (I knew better than to listen to my doctor--REALLY--hold a dose for a 4.2 ???). Anyway, I reduced from my usual 10 mg to 8mg on Thurs and Fri, 9mg on Sat and will go back to 10 tonight (Sun). Just checked--my inr is 3.5! Range is 2.5-3.5 so...

    Need advice on dosing change??

Finally got the money together and bought a Coagucheck XS on eBay. I think it probably ended up being cheaper than the copay would have been thru Roche even if my ins had covered. Pd $800 for machine with 48 strips. I can't tell you what a help the protime meter was to me. Thanks again. X

    Need advice on dosing change??

My inr range is 2.5-3.5. I am on antibiotics--started Thurs Sept 26 with a Rocephan injection, then Cefdinir and SMZ/TMP for 10 days (last antibiotic will be on Sunday the 6th). Checked my inr on 9/27 (2.9) on 9/29 (3.6) on 10/1 (3.6)--thought I was home free--but on 10/3 (4.2). I currently...

    coaguchek strips

Just FYI--I have a coaguchek xs that I purchased myself and purchase my strips online. I have several strips that just expired the end of March 2013. So I decided to back up the date on my meter to Feb and used 1 of my expired strips this morning. It passed the quality check and gave me a...

I am surprised every time I see a new list of Vit K foods--SEASONED BREAD CRUMBS--high in vit K?!!

    the 15 second rule

I have a Coaguchek XS and have been using it for about 1 1/2 yrs. When I compare the results with the lab they have always been within .2. My instruction book says --after using the lancet---"Gently squeeze from the base of the finger to develop a hanging drop of blood." I understand the...

Please tell me I am doing this right..

Protimenow, I certainly agree with your last post. I have gone round and round with my coumadin clinic about taking an "even" dose each day. I take 10mg 5days/wk and 7.5 the other 2 days(65mg/wk). I just CANNOT believe it doesn't make a difference. If the daily dose didn't matter (only the...

    Dosage question?

Yes, I intend to stay at the new dosage. I had been at 70mg/wk previously. Will check in another week. Thanks everyone.

    Dosage question?

Did self test this morning--inr is 2.5. I really expected it to be higher, but 2.5 is good.

    Dosage question?

No I haven't started anything new. Yes, I home test (with cardiologist approval but not Coumadin clinic approval). I will probably retest over the weekend. Thanks, Bina.

    Dosage question?

Thanks, ****. I checked the dosing chart and saw the recommendation also. Just wasn't sure about taking an additional dose tonight--but didn't really want to wait either. I will take the 2.5 tonight and test in a week.

    Dosage question?

My inr target range is 2.5-3.5. My last 3 weekly inr's were 2.7, 2.5, 2.5 --which slightly concerned me as it is fresh veggie season and I have a huge garden. Well, today's inr is 1.9. I'm thinking a 10% increase is in order. My current dose is 65mg/wk--I had been on 70mg/wk until April 19...

    Roche Diagnostics Out of Network

I purchased my Coaguchek XS thru ebay about a year ago for $800 and this included 48 test strips. I have since purchased 48 more test strips for $200 on ebay. I have had no problems with the meter or the strips. Roche wanted to charge me $2400 just for the meter. I told my cardiologist after...

False Increases in INRs - QC doesn't catch - WARNING

I tested my inr on Monday am using my Coaguchek XS and got 3.7--I went immediately to the lab for a vein draw (which they send by courier to Lenexa KS and I get a result the next day) Anyway the lab got 3.6. So I'm pretty pleased. I still plan to get a lab inr periodically and even compare the...
