    Surgery is officially recommended

Can’t speak to your issue since I have mitral and my guy said mechanical 100% (I am 56 and have rheumatic heart disease that actively attacks tissues, so I agree). But we may be going through this on a similar timeline. I had pre op tests last week, getting a tooth pulled next week and then...

    Can you trust your dentist?

I saw my dentist today - I am indeed gonna need my loose tooth extracted before valve surgery, which is what I expected but still kind of a bummer since it's one of my front teeth. Temporary "flipper" to cover the hole and then figure something out much later in terms of dentures, completely...

    Can you trust your dentist?

I am going to jump on this thread because I need to get dental clearance before I have OHS imminently. It says that I need to have had a cleaning within 6 months which is fine. But also no loose teeth. One of my front teeth has been loose for a couple years, not an abscess but the gum tissue has...

Surgery this week and still Terrified

Great to hear, geff! I'm up next. So I will have to take my own advice about not worrying. Hahaha.

Prepping the house for after surgery

Looking for some advice on prepping my house for after surgery. Read some threads but have a couple questions still: 1. Something to sleep in - there are TONS of used recliners / lift chairs for sale on Facebook Marketplace near me at reasonable prices, from free to about $250. There are also...

    Time for mitral valve replacement

Met with cardiologist and cardiac surgeon today and they said mitral stenosis has become severe and symptomatic (shortness of breath, afib, TIA) and it is time for surgery, probably in the next month. They offered the option of trying another valvuloplasty, but it has a guarantee of worsening...

INR - How low should you go?

Fair enough - I do value ya, protimenow, and trying to help others is admirable when you are going through a lot yourself.

INR - How low should you go?

    Eh well nobody’s perfect.

INR - How low should you go?

Dude . . . you told them they didn't know WHAT VALVE THEY HAD and then explained about wallet cards being a thing and how their cardiologist might also be mistaken about the kind of valve they have. :ROFLMAO:  That wasn't your best moment.

Another cry out for help…Ablation or no ablation!

Hi Eva, I'm sorry you're going through this with so much stress. I have some similar issues right now. Short version, I have severe mitral stenosis with my native valve and I had afib for the first time at the end of March. Went to the ER and was cardioverted after the IV meds did not work. I...

Endurance cyclist much worse after robotic mitral valve repair

No idea if Jackie is still tracking this, but wanted to say you might be able to get a stress echo on a recumbent bike. That’s the setup I just had. In addition to avoiding your issue with falling off the treadmill they can take the stress measurement WHILE you are exerting rather than you...

    Disconcerting stress echo

Luckily yes, I am at least on Eliquis. Prior to that I was on 325mg aspirin daily since 2002.

    Disconcerting stress echo

Yes, this is my plan, I am only waiting to see if I'm getting more imaging imminently before I seek one, probably from the Mayo since I live in MN.

Metoprolol vision changes? Or is this something else? Graying out of vision in one eye only

I will be discussing this with my doc again because I do have the (rare in the US) situation where I have (now severe) mitral stenosis and now afib, which I don't think has ever been studied for tx with a DOAC. I know they've tried DOACs (and stopped the study) with mech valves. Of course this...

Metoprolol vision changes? Or is this something else? Graying out of vision in one eye only

Thanks for clarifying. The tunnel vision part sounds similar but then when it resolved, vision returned from the bottom of the eye going up in a perfectly horizontal, crisp line, like a curtain going up at a theater or a window shade going up.

Metoprolol vision changes? Or is this something else? Graying out of vision in one eye only

Interesting, I was newly on metoprolol succinate when this occurred, only 25 mg once a day, but my blood pressure is naturally about 100/60 and on that dose it dropped into the high 80s / high 50s during routine checks at home. The worst time it happened it I was hiking on a very hot day, might...
