2 very important appointments coming up

Excellent, glad you are getting an MD cardiologist, 100% appropriate . . . . they should be able to look at your tests and see if you really even need a surgical consult right now. You are BAV with moderate regurg and 4.1cm aneurysm, right? Obviously, you are going to ask the cardiologist...

    Possible Mitral Valve Surgery Needed?

Sorry to hear about the mitral problems. I have both mitral stenosis and regurgitation due to rheumatic issues and had a repair in 2002 that has worked fine so far. In my case at least, they do not want to see any enlargement of the left ventricle - symptomatic or not, that's when they want to...

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

Just to add to what other mitral folks said above - my understanding is that for mitral valve patients, the EF can appear artificially elevated, so 60% is in fact not normal and can be a cause for concern and follow-up tests. The ranges used for those with aortic valve issues or indeed other...

    Blood pressure home testing

My BP is naturally low anyways, but I can definitely lower it just by thinking soothing thoughts.

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

Well, I wouldn’t panic - see what your doc says, but understand that your EF is a calculated number, and echos do show some variation. If they are concerned about you they will likely either put you on more frequent monitoring or do a TEE to check the result. I’ve had TEEs twice and both times...

    ADHD medication for heart patients

Maybe ease off on all the angry faces? Anger Can Affect Your Heart Health February 04, 2022 Anger is a normal human emotion and can serve a useful purpose, but if you frequently “blow your top,” it may affect your heart health. “Anger causes a flood of adrenaline, preparing your body for...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

Yeah, it mystifies me that they even try it on anyone without sedation - I mean, what the heck? I guess there are people who can tolerate it? Not me, for sure! Maybe this can count as your one and only bump in the road (fingers crossed)

    Warfarin & ASA

I’m the weirdo who is on only 325 mg aspirin (since native valve was repaired) but it’s my cardiologist who prescribed that. 20 years and counting. I seem to tolerate it fine. But a little creeped out - is anyone else on full dose aspirin only?

    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

Correct however mitral stenosis can be addressed with a valvuloplasty through the groin. That’s the repair I had.

I'm Being Referred to a Surgeon...

Sorry to hear about the pacemaker lead OP. That is a serious bum deal.

I'm Being Referred to a Surgeon...

Just in case it helps someone - I am not bothered by the dentist but my son with autism is, to the point had had eight cavities and we tried tons of dentists and he just could not stay calm (he is terrified of all anesthesia and tranquilizers too) But we found a dentist who uses a solara laser...

    Career after heart valve replacment

For most jobs it would be illegal for them to even ask about your medical conditions. Your valve condition doesn’t even rise to the level of something that would make you lose consciousness or really affect your work in any respect. It’s fixed! Sorry the Navy doesn’t see it that way. I hope...

Mechanical valves ... but what about the ticking?

Yeah … I would try a variety of cpap masks before giving up, sleep apnea is rough on your heart among other things.

    TAVR

Here's hoping that your heart is still going to remodel and improve -- also, maybe they can change up your medications as you go? I imagine that a lot of adjustments would be necessary to adjust to the new valve. Hang in there, I am sure it's worrisome and frustrating.

EIL5: How to find a new doctor, labs, etc. in USA, when moving

You can check your insurance to see if you need a referral for a specialist, and if not get on their calendar now your inr management and seamless services. I really think that for medical necessity reasons you should be able to arrange this.

EIL5: How to find a new doctor, labs, etc. in USA, when moving

Looking at docs on the insurance portals can be overwhelming and not a lot of info to go on, mine covered thousands of docs. My shortcut, which I actually learned because of my emergency valve situation wherein I was transferred from one hospital to a different hospital via ambulance, is: 1)...

Recently told I need valve replacement but may not be able to take warfarin

Heck ya, I would def try to pull some strings and get an informal consult. Clearly some women on this board have had successful pregnancies with a mechanical valve. It would be a shame to set yourself up for repeat surgery if the most up to date and expert knowledge says it’s manageable. You...

Recently told I need valve replacement but may not be able to take warfarin

Unlikely to do a TAVI, lol. Though, I do stand by my former statement “they’re very unlikely to do a taco.”

Recently told I need valve replacement but may not be able to take warfarin

You could get lucky, your odds of the tissue lasting are pretty low because of your young age and at that point when you are still very young they’re very unlikely to do a taco. I would make the assumption that you are definitely having a second OHS to put in a mechanical valve. Did you ever get...
