    Pericarditis & Pericardial Effusion

I find myself in a very similar place. Came bac to hospital 24th with what turned out to be pericardial effusion. They did an echo to r\o need for aspiration. Sending me home today with another echo for Thursday, but I will certainly tell to go easy on the ribs. Pain gratefully has really...

    Soccer

I had my surgery on June 12th, AVR with porcine valve. My surgeon felt I should be back to playing this fall season. I play in an over 50s league so the contact is minimal.. The speed with which I get SOB makes that seem like an unreachable goal. So plan to work with cardiac rehab in a week...

    Cooker's Throwdown Friday ... 6-21.13

My food has changed alot since getting home on June 17th. Admit weight was 273# and discharge weight was 263#. I have been home now for 6 days and the weight has slipped down to just 262. Had an AVR porcine valve done. 52 years old, at least until the 13th of this next month.

A couple of post op questions.

Had surgery on 12th of June. Had a AVR, and got a tissue valve. Overall recovery has been great, but a couple of points that have been frustrating. Getting the gut to start working as usual. I am not having to use much if any pain medication, but even a little amount of food will make me...

    Over the top, on descent

I had my surgery the 12th, and got home on the 17th. Can't imagine even thinking about hopping on a stationary bike for another couple of weeks. We live on a hill, so when I do go for a walk outside I get right into it. Sleep was a problem until lastnight, but will consider trying the triazolam.

On the other side but still climbing!

Made it to other side! Made it to other side! Surgery was a huge success. Turns out the leakage was worse than expected, and the left and right ventricles were too big, and the surgeon told me this am they are both improving per the tee he dig. Today is rough with pain and light headed ness...

Tissue Valve and Future Percutaneous Replacement

My surgeon convinced me to go with a tissue valve, although he would gladly put in an on-x valve if I requested. He is convinced that even in 10 years if I need work done on the valve it will be done via a cathater.

26 year old playing sports on Warfarin

I also play soccer, and have surgery in two days. Surgeon told me to expect to be back on the pitch in the fall. I did play keeper for years, but have started playing center forward for the running exercise. Glad to hear so many replies around not getting turned into a fragile flower. I will...

How many of you chose your valve type based on what others on here went with?

I was planning on the On-x valve because of what I have read here, but was talked into a tissue valve by my surgeon. He stated he would gladly place an On-x valve if I insisted, but given his track record and expertise I decided to go with the tissue.

    June 12

I have been reading this on this site for years and it has proved so helpful I can't thank people enough. My bicuspid aortic valve has finally caused enough trouble it needs to be replaced and this is happening this Wednesday at 0900. I was planning on an Ony-x valve, but the surgeon convinced...
