    Double Valve Replacement

If you have read the posts you may recall that I had OHS in Nov 2009. This is not about me, although as I am doing better each day, there are other issues I have that I have talked about in other threads. This is for my wife who will need OHS herself within the next 2 months! After seeing...

    Confused about valve choice

EVA I noticed in your bio that you had a double valve replacement, aortic and mitral at the same time. Is that common? Do you think your surgury and recovery were any harder or difficult than just say the aortic valve? The reason I ask is that I am 8 weeks post op for a aortic valve...

Update: Today is 6 weeks post op. Aside for aches and pains in the upper body, the incission is healing nice and with little pain. I find myself always cold, freezing at times, wearing exta jackets even in the house. Could be the meds. Also having trouble getting a good n7-8 hours of sleep...

    Sensitive teeth

I am almost 2 weeks post op and am having terrible pain in my teeth. Anything hot or cold that goes over them really hurts for about a minute or so and goes away. I tried brushing with a toothpaste for sesitive teeth and a mouth wash in case it is bacterial. Has anyone else had this problem...

Hi everyone. It's over and I am home! Not without dramma but tomorrow will be one week and I am feeling fairly good as long as I stay up on the pain meds although I am cutting back some already. I went for the tissue valvue after a second conversation with my surgeon. The took me in at 7 am...

    Confused about valve choice

Coach: Thanks for writing what you did. It could have been my post exactly( except for the age thing) I am about 15 years older. The best line was not knowing what to expect from the surgury. That is what made my decission so hard up to yesterday. Having had injuries from sports before and...

    Confused about valve choice

Hi it is mspinder ((mark), remember me? I am having OHS for aortic valve on 11-6-09, that's tomorrow, Friday. Well, I spoke with my surgeon on Wed. and he never really recommended one over the other but he did say that due to an enlargment of my aortic root that a pig valve would be a good...

    Confused about valve choice

OK Tomorrow morning I meet with the surgeon. I hope to have a clearer idea after talking to him. The main concerns are I do not want to be on blood thinners (However that is like saying you do not like a certain food that you never even tried!) And without knowledge of what the surgury will be...

    Confused about valve choice

My consultation is on Wednesday. In reading over all the replys I am still not sure as to my selection. I've read the pros and cons from people here on this forum for each type of valve. I guess the one thing that I haven't heard much of is the fear or anxiety of having to have another OHS...

    Confused about valve choice

JKM7: Thanks for the reply. How old were you for each of your 2 OHS? Was the first one for arortic valve or something else? Do you believe the 2nd surgery had more risks than the 1st? Sorry for all the questions but I am looking for that one thing that will make me make the right choice for...

    Confused about valve choice

Hello everyone. My consultation with my surgeon is on We. morning. I have a long list of questions. In response tosome of those who replied: Eva: How old were you? Blood thinners are ok with you so far? Al: Dad died of colon cancer at 51, 1979, Mom just last March at 82 of heart failure...

    Confused about valve choice

Thanks to all the great advise. I do not have lots of time right now but I will respond later today or tomorrow. I do have a more intense consultation with my surgeon on Monday. I have many more questions to ask him about his choice of a tissue valve. I was not as informed at the last meeting...

    Confused about valve choice

Hi, my name is Mark and I am new to this board. There sure is much information to digest here and I think I read every post. My story. I was born with a heart murmur. It has never restricted me in any way. I see a cardiologist every year for all the tests. I developed a-fib in Dec. of 05...
