Dr Roselli at the Cleveland Clinic

Hello,

I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr Eric Roselli at the Cleveland Clinic on 21 Nov 2024. I'm 65 years old and will probably need an aortic root replacement as well as an aortic bioprosthetic valve replacement. This will be a redo, as my bicuspid valve and ascending aorta were replaced in 2011 by Dr Lars Svensson during the heady days of future TAVR promise. I'm not interested in Svensson doing this surgery. I'm traveling to Cleveland from Colorado, and unfortunately, Dr Roselli's nurse tells me that he doesn't do virtual meetings or calls prior to surgery, so my first meeting with him will be the afternoon before surgery. My local cardiologist did his interventional cardiology training at the CC and recommended Dr Roselli, but I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has had any personal experience with him as their surgeon. I know he's the head of the Aorta Division at CC, and I saw elsewhere on the forum that he may be primarily doing aorta surgeries at this point. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

No personal experience with him but looks like he's a very experienced and popular surgeon (perhaps that's why he doesn't find time to meet with patients before surgery). NY Rangers' star goalkeeper Henrik Lundquist got his surgery done from him (which involved aortic valve, aortic root and ascending aorta) some 2-3 years ago. You're in good hands

He is my surgeon for my mechanical valve replacement, and other internal procedures addressing my dissection. He has been my guy since 2010, and is one of the best. I just saw him 2 weeks ago for my annual checkup.
I am 74 and my wife and I fly up for my appointment every year.
The local doctors here in TN don.t know how to work on me, they say I am an extremely high risk patient.
So, I go to see the guy who did the work. He knows best if all is functioning properly,
Dr, Rosselli is fantastic. You are lucky to have him for a surgeon.

Indeed, I wouldn't be going out of bounds to say he is one of the tops in the world. I have a friend who goes to him, says he's great in person, busy, busy, but surgery, he's all there. Every time he has another appointment, he ends up waiting 2 hours plus to see him and it's pretty quick.
I have an acquaintance who is having surgery today or tomorrow there and her surgeon will only meet with her the day before, after all her tests are done, so not out of the norm.

I actually tried to get in with him for my surgery and couldn't get over the hurdles. I had Dr. Unai at CC do my surgery and he was fantastic too. He's rather, well, traditionally Japanese, and a joke with one of the nurses was that he and Dr. Roselli are polar opposites personality wise. I'd have Dr. Unai cut me open again tho
CC was great- my take, after having many other surgeries in several other hospitals is that it's just another hospital. However, the people are great. The surgery team was tops, nurses, test people, all great. Everyone you could tell was focused and knew about hearts and their issues, and what was going on with your body. None of the blank look from a nurse or doctor with a 'hmmm, that's, um, well...maybe it's...' that usually happens (or that crap nurse who you end up double checking each time what meds they're giving you).
You're not in good hands, no, great hands.

Thanks, Tjay…I saw this earlier as well. I’m no pro NHL goalie (not by a long shot!), but I do like to stay active with cycling, hiking, skiing etc. Sounds like Dr Roselli will take that into consideration at surgery time.

Thanks Pellicle, we spent a year in the Land of Aus back in the late 1990s. Worked north of Melbourne and travelled from Hobart to the Daintree in Queensland. Really enjoyed the landscapes, animals and the people. Great memories! Cheers.

Thanks, Rob, for your reply and endorsement of Dr R. Makes me feel more at ease going into this surgery again. My cardiologist speaks very highly of him as well. Wishing you all the best!

Thanks for the reply….appreciate your input! You’re right, according to Roselli’s nurse, it’s a department wide policy now not to do virtual appointments for out of town patients. Not sure why they stopped doing those, but it’s not just Dr Roselli. She did encourage me to submit any questions I had to him via the patient portal, and she said he responds pretty quickly🙂. Sounds like he’s top notch, and I feel fortunate that my cardiologist has that connection with the CC and Dr Roselli. Thanks again, and wishing you all the best!
