Hello all! I just found this group it’s great!
My aortic valve replacement is July 11th. T minus 5.5 days!
Additional info on me - moderate to severe stenosis that increased these past 2 years. Aneurysm grew from 4.5 to 4.7 in a year while being very healthy and active.
I’ve known the surgery was coming since I was 19 and I’m now a few months shy of 53.
TIA for your support!
Dawn

Greetings Dawn.
A big welcome to the forum.
You’ll find tremendous support and much wisdom here around heart valve replacement issues. Lots of stories and friendly advice.

Was wondering what type of valve you have decided upon? Tissue (bioprosthetic) or mechanical?

Lots of members with either tissue or mechanical valves on the forum. A real, vibrant mix of heart valve experiences.

Any questions you may have going forward, just ask away and forum members will usually respond as best they can.

Wishing you a good and gentle few days in the lead up to your op, and the very best with your recovery.

Welcome to the forume Dawn!

Glad that you found us and good luck with your procedure coming up.

We'll look forward to hearing from you on the other side!

Welcome to the best support system online, or really say the whole universe, where we can agree, or agree to disagree. You are welcome here. I had OHS like you, I have a St. Jude's aortic leaflet valve and still here. You will be also. No sweat. Glad to have you onboard.

Wishing you a smooth recovery! You are relatively young for the OHS, so it should be not too difficult.

Just out of curiosity, where are you getting it done?

Please keep in touch. This forum might well be even more useful after the operation.

I opted for tissue as I’m really active and am afraid of blood thinners. When this tissue valve gets old, I’ll do mechanical.
Thanks!

I’m having it done at CPMC on Van Ness in SF. Dr. Egrie is my surgeon.
I am young but my valve is “old”! lol. Darn thing!!

Good luck to you. I’m an active 53 year old who had to make the same decision at the age of 18. I had opted for a St. Jude’s mechanical aortic valve. It’s 35 years later and it has not stopped me from biking, hiking, kayaking, and riding my bike. I have 2 adopted children therapy, since that wasa better choice with Coumadin for me. I think that I became more active, grateful, and live life to the fullest as a result of my surgery. Best of luck! I just found this group, wish I had a network when I was young making a big decision.
