I had a homograft aortic (human) valve replaced in 3/98. I chose this valve to avoid taking cumadin. The surgery was performed at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. I was told that I will need to have this valve replaced. Since I am already on Pradaxo (blood thinner), I think a mechanical valve is the way to go (to avoid a 3rd surgery).
While I was being treated for the atrial fib, they performed a catherization that revealed no blockage.
I play 125 rounds of golf a year, exercise moderately (treadmill and elipical) and walk at a 16 minute / mile pace in my neighborhood.
