Diagnosed with a heart murmur at a Med Clinic for an unrelated illness when I was in my 20s. Followed up at the Cleveland Clinic a few weeks later and was then diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve. The valve continued to deteriorate over several years with severe aortic regurgitation and a dialated left ventricle. I have always been asymptomatic with no issues, however, my left ventricle dialated to a point where surgery was required. In April 2015 I underwent a aortic valve repair. Immediately following surgery the valve functioned properly with minimal leakage. Over the course of several weeks the valve progressively deteriorated and the severe aortic regurgitation soon followed. In November 2015 I underwent an aortic valve replacement with a 25mm On-X valve. No issues thus far, other than having difficulty regulating my INR into the targeted 2 - 3 range.
