I had an AVR and double bypass on the 17th April 2013 at Stoke University Hospital, Staffordshire, a SORIN BICARBON FITLINE mechanical valve, was in intensive care for 6 days following complications, followed by 6 weeks of antibiotics via drip for an infection discovered by surgeon when removing old valve, finally left hospital after 6 and a half weeks, lost voice for 3 months and ability to swallow liquids without thickeners, eventually returning in August, now well recovered, and enjoying life again after almost a year.
Update,
Still going well after 8 years, although now not walking as much due to Osteoarthritis in left knee, riding bike instead.
Mechanical valve all ok, been stable with INR for over 2 years now, 2.5 to 3.5 range. Echo results fine and feeling well.
