My experience post mechanical aortic valve replacement

Thanks for the advice. I requested a stress test from the cardiac rehab clinic a couple of weeks ago. They said they are reluctant to do them on bentall procedures until after 12 weeks. Hoping I can get one soon

My experience post mechanical aortic valve replacement

Hey Joe, Thankfully my sternum is pain free now. The surgeon cleared me to go back swimming at 12 weeks and also lifting light weights. No pain when running. I suppose it depends on what your surgeon advises.

My experience post mechanical aortic valve replacement

Hey @tjay, Thanks for sharing your story. It’s similar to mine in lots of ways. My pre op valve was initially regurg and then added stenosis later. I also had a mechanical bentalls with ascending aorta and ended up with a pericardial effusion. How are you finding your running? I’m 13 weeks...

My experience post mechanical aortic valve replacement

Hey Jeff, Thats a great pace for marathons! I did one marathon in my teens and finished in 4 hours so was never at the level you were. I have started back running slowly in zone 2 only. I train with a HR belt rather than relying on the wrist sensor on my Garmin. I saw my cardiologist...

My experience post mechanical aortic valve replacement

Yep, I’ve had an Australian cardiologist for the last 5 years. Haven’t seen him since the surgery but booked in with him on Thursday. Hoping he can help with the warfarin management as the GP practice seem a bit inexperienced. They couldn’t understand why I didn’t have a tissue valve and said “I...

My experience post mechanical aortic valve replacement

I dont unfortunately. It was about 6 years ago in the Royal. I’ll never forget watching them do a mechanical AVR though 😂. The moment the heart and lungs stopped moving hit me hard. And when they shocked the heart back into rythm after. Amazing what they can do!

My experience post mechanical aortic valve replacement

Thanks @acki46 , That graph is awesome. Did you make that yourself? I haven't changed warfarin tablets yet but I will be this week as the brand I got in Ireland doesn't exist here and I'm running low. I've been taking TEVA but I will be taking Coumadin here. I've been chatting with...

Hey! They didnt offer this procedure. I know some people are also offered a valve repair but my valve wasn't suitable for this.

    38/M - 5.5 weeks post AV/Root Replacment (Surgeon Selection, Recovery & Pericarditis)

No autoimmune issues but that’s interesting. It sounds like pericarditis is more common than I realised

    38/M - 5.5 weeks post AV/Root Replacment (Surgeon Selection, Recovery & Pericarditis)

Hey @acki46 , I hope you've recovered from your second pericarditis episode. How are you feeling now? I've spent the last couple of months weighing up valve options and this thread has been a massive help in choosing a valve and easing the anxiety about what's to come. Thank you for this...

Thanks @acki46 , Your post about your surgery has really helped me set expectations. Sounds like you had some unexpected issues but glad to hear you’re feeling good now and not having any issues with warfarin and travel. Work have given me the 2 off to recover and an option of a third at...

Pre Surgery Questions - AVR. Based in Australia.

Hey @DJ-Rae09 , Thanks for your reply and congrats on your 2 year anniversary! Great to hear you’re feeling stronger than before! I’ll check out Dr Mathur. My cardiologist has referred me to Dr Paul Jansz at St Vincent’s. Supposedly they do heart transplants there so the ICU is well equipped...

Pre Surgery Questions - AVR. Based in Australia.

Thanks for the detailed reply @pellicle , Apologies for the late response, I thought I’d get a notification if someone replied. The reason I thought the Ross was the right choice is because I was worried about the impact of warfarin on my life. I used to ride motorbikes and surf in remote...
