I just had my 3rd AVR a few months ago. My first was porcine valve, followed by bovine, third is a mechanical St. Jude. I went through the turmoil too! I'm 3 months out and feel great. Surgery recovery is NOT fun! But Coumadin/Warfarin is no big deal. At least nothing yet. I figure God must...
I didn’t want anticoagulants. I was very active and chose to go bio valve first two. I’m older now and my kids are out of the house (almost). Plus mechanical valves have a life as well. They don’t last forever, and have their issues as well.
I have heavy thumping and some clicking. Like others said, it is worst when sleeping and lying on my side. 😐
I’m praying remodeling will happen! After 3 AVRs I’m a bit of a mess in there. Thumping is very loud when I take deep breaths. LVH was in my history each surgery.
Hey All,
So survived 3rd AVR! I’m post op day 4 now. We chose St. Jude HP mechanical valve with partial Dacron root section replacement. I’m still in hospital getting INR stabilized. I requested and got a double surgeon team that did a good job. I’m praying to be released today. I can’t hear...
I’m 56 years old. My wife and I hit the gym 5 days a week. I’m on my second AVR, and heading into my 3rd in less than a month. I recommend weights and cardio! It’s what has enabled my heart to maintain 60% EF even though I’m in CHF. I’m heading into what hopefully will be my last AVR Aug 12th...
Good info! Thanks!
I saw my wires during my angiogram yesterday. (which came out clear and free of any vein or artery narrowings or obstructions!)
I have 10! Seems like a lot. No?
Great info on St. Jude! I'm assuming that goes for SJRegent and SJMasters from what I've been researching. I'll add them to my top 3 choices. Thanks for your wisdom pellicle!
Hello,
So met with cardiologist, following CT scan, and TAVR surgeon and we agreed that TAVR will be very LOW on my list of choices. I have bovine 23mm valve and patient mismatch would be the result of a TAVR.
I'm planning on a mechanical SAVR. Most likely a Medtronic Open Pivot Standard (ATS)...
I'm going with Medtronic ATS Open-Pivot mechanical and SAVR. Pellicle posted some great research!
When its time, its time. Mine is coming up soon too! Very similar circumstances as you.
Godspeed!
